  1. Was through there in 3rd week of February this year…still was beautiful but there was logging as you said.
  2. I know the area and route you took well. Beautiful ride through the Debouile trail. funny thing, I Was on my way up there in Dec of 06 as that one(storm) was wrapping up…drove all night, and had to pull into rest area just before Medway to sleep due to the mesmerizing nature of the heavy snow at night for hrs on end. 95 was one lane and barely passable, I was in 4 wheel hi towing my new trailer and new sled doing 30 mph if that, to St Agatha. A 9-10 hour trip took about 17 hrs. So Exhausting. When I arrived at the lodge at about 10am…the area was buried under close to 40”. Needless to say we broke trail for a couple days until grooming operations could get caught up…quite the experience.
  3. Thank you so much for the very interesting info Tamarack. You are treasure trove of info for sure, I do appreciate it. Yes I agree…for sledding you can’t beat N. Maine, they take their snowmobiling and their trails very seriously….best trails east of the Mississippi for sure…and some of the best anywhere for that matter. Looking forward to a good season we hope. Thsnks again.
  4. I agree with this…but not hot lol, mild to warm is fine.
  5. Also the Octobomb of ‘11, which pretty much shut down Halloween. It(cold and snow in October) happens. But I’m fine with it mild for another couple weeks at least.
  6. That’s Very interesting. The mill in Madawaska and Edmunston wasn’t there back then? Ya, that northern crown of Maine up there can do cold like few other places in the lower 48 that’s for sure. Can be BRUTAL. Been up to Escort Station a few times, another remote frigid place in winter. How bout the airfield on the way to escort…that’s a neat runway out there in the middle of nowhere/massive forest wilderness. Drops off like a cliff at the end of it about 100ft…sledders got killed there a few years ago drag racing, and didn’t know it was a cliff at the end. Me and a couple of buddies just rented a cabin in the Cross lake/Sinclair region for the winter for sledding. We love it up there. Great people.
  7. Been out there on the sled in Dickie, ME…and then rode the logging roads to St.Pamphile Canada. Nothing out there at all but deep forest…very remote. Gorgeous though.
  8. You’d like it Will. It’s a nice meat…the key to not having it taste gamey, is after its cleaned you soak it in cold salt water for 3-5 hours, then rinse well, and then freeze if you’re not eating at that time.
  9. This is another way to prepare them. Folks turn up their noses, when they’ve never even tried it..that’s nauseating. if I prepared them and fried them up and served them, most of you guys would like em..a lot. Just like frog legs…absolutely delicious too.
  10. Nope…I wear shorts all spring and summer, and while I’m teaching when it’s warm.
  11. Not gross at all. We would quarter them up and fry them…came out awesome. You’d love it. Tastes alot like rabbit…but a little firmer. Really Delicious.
  12. They’re good eating…used to eat them all the time growing up. Need about 6-7 for a good meal for a family of four.
  13. Ya that’s the one….GFS had the glitch, and when it did show the big hit after sending it out to sea for a few days, NWS said to ignore that run due to convective feedback, but it was finally catching on.
  14. I wouldn’t go that far…it could change fast come 2nd half of November. And regarding what Will said…we don’t want any decent pattern peaking before we are climatologically ready to take full advantage of it here in SNE…which means much closer to and into December, not first half of November.
  15. Yes…that was a great run, with the very rare elusive Norlun thrown in for good measure. A very Fun/exciting 6 weeks.
  16. That’s fine by me…keep it mild for another couple weeks. I remember November 2002 well…early part of month(first 10-12 days) it was 70 ir even a bit more a time or two, cuz we were out on my bike(Harley), and it felt like early September…2 weeks later it was snowing.
  17. Nope! Last day of January had to shovel roofs with 42 plus inches on them caving everything in. Early Feb brought more snow…then it shut down…but it was epic.
  18. 16 Days from now…not happening but nice eye candy.
  19. Which obviously isn’t caribou lol. Looks closer to Houlton.
  20. That’s exactly what I was thinking about(2010-2011), but I didn’t want to come out and say that, for fear of being called a wishcaster. I remember Bastardi back then forecasting a heavily front ended winter for ‘10-11, and said if we didn’t get the goods by the end of December, we were probably toast. He was humbled by what happened that winter, and admitted as much.
  21. I know you love being the big TERD in the punch bowl, but Let’s see what actually sets up, before we say torch city etc for January and February. Many times things take longer to establish themselves, and hang on longer than we all think.
