You must be talking about Beau Dodson. I think he still lurks here from time to time. I vaguely remember seeing him post something a couple of years ago.
Yep thats him. Wondered what he was up to. Not surprised he's made a career of it.

Yup it should be in a 24 hour period or as a single event. March 08 was around 22” in 24 hours and PD03 was a biggie also around 15” but it came in 2 parts with about a 12 hour lull in the middle.
surprised at that 11.6 yesterday. Definitely about 14-15 my
Random question.. do you remember the guy that was from Paducah years back. He built a weather tower on his property and everything. Was super smart. I talked to him a lot back in the day and then he just disappeared. Used to be active all the time, I'd say back in 2012-13

Well of course we got over a foot of snow lol. Thats nearly half the average. But before this most recent storm... Look im not one that looks at 20 1/2" dusting as "well 10" so far is pretty good". Yes, it adds to the yearly total, but it isnt remembered and certainly doesn't equate to what a snow lover would call a good winter. This last storm, that was good.

Haven't gone out and measured the yard but we have a foot on our back porch. All I can say is... It's about time... Wish this wasn't a once every 10 year thing. Hopefully we get some more to track in the coming month.
-
Already up to 7" with the short range models showing another 10-12" to go. If accurate could start to challenge 2008.

Looks good. I would probably bring the up to 18" zone further north though.
I was worried about putting 14" because its so rare here. Ill update once I see how we do with Virga.

Nice to finally have a big one to track here in central Ohio! Looking likely to have first Winter Storm Warning in years. My concern now is cold/dry air winning out & that precip shield getting shunted to the south. Not saying it won’t snow but big snow here still at risk. Ratios should be good but too cold & you get a pixy dust storm.
Im opposite. Im more concerned it keeps pushing nw until we get freezing rain/sleet lol.

the weekend has one of my eyebrows in raised position
First 'potential' big one worth tracking for the OV in a long time. This type of scenario is what makes tracking fun. Being on the edge 5 days out and hoping for a shift. We've seen too many of these monsters bully north, sometimes to our benefit, (PD2003 and Feb2010), and often to our demise, (Feb 13, 2007).
Well it certainly cant go any further south. All but GFS have ticked north a bit.

It's been a great winter for Central Ohio. Since 2014, only 2018 saw more to date at Columbus!
Disagree. I couldn't care less if we're above normal when its 1" here and 1" there. That doesn't equate to a good winter. We have had 1 decent snowfall of 5" in November, aside that its been mostly garbage. Do you need further proof than the fact I was the first post here since December 3rd? Lol

Another year, another dud for us in Central Ohio so far. I think our best shot is gonna come around mid-february otherwise- maybe a couple 2-3 inchers if we're lucky. Frankly, I'm sick of it.
-
As much as I loved March 2008 being in Ohio, Id say Presidents Day 2003. It was almost exclusively a day time storm and the amount for me was truly unexpected.
-
NAM juicy for Monday/Tuesday, but consensus seems to be a 3-5" average across Central Ohio. Early season, would definitely take it.

Which is what I said in my response? In any case, the original claim was about this winter. Columbus has only had 23 days with 1" or more snow cover this month, not multiple months.
I'm more north of Columbus and we definitely had more than 23 days of 1" of snow. We had snow from the system after Christmas all the way to the end of January, then a brief melt with another system putting about 3" down that last 2 or 3 weeks. Our typical winter will see snow, then it's melted within a week then maybe a little more a week later etc. Not basically continuous. Yes there were melts but areas were quickly re-covered.

Believe it or not, this used to be normal!
I'm 40, and it's usually been snow then melts, snow then melts. I faintly remember when I was a kid it seemed like we had a lot more snow but could just be cause I was shorter lol.

Wanted to get on and say, I think for the first time in as long as I can remember, we've has snow on the ground for nearly all of the winter, at least here in Knox county. It was never a lot, but we got our first snow right after Christmas. That snow lasted for about a month and a half. Then we went a few days without snow, but the next snow fall, while it is nearly all gone now is still holding on in some shaded spots. So for nearly 3 months we've had snow on the ground. It kinda kills the pre-winter predictions of a warm winter for us. It's not been remotely warm this winter, and we've had snow on the ground for more days than I can ever remember in the past and it was done without ever having a major storm in Central Ohio. Anyone else notice how long the snow stayed on the ground this year?

We’re north of 2” here imby already. I think between the rest of the synoptic and maybe some squalls later 3-5” on the ground by night is easily reachable
Not sure what we'll get here but it's heavy snow currently. Guess it'll just depend on how long before it passes. Probably be our last hoorah for the year

Made no sense to me when ILN left their northern tier counties off the wwa. Pretty rough out there right now just like every model was showing yesterday.
Cleveland took knox off yesterday, now back on and calling for the nice range of 1-4" lol

I literally just saw this on a news feed and it was like 10 days ago. Ganahl was the goat of cmh weather. He moved to Columbus from Iowa during the infamous late 70s winters. I followed and watched him for nearly 45years from when I was in junior high school to becoming a grandpa. He was a huge snow weenie too, loved cold and snow. That’s why it was fun to watch him.
RIP Jym, May the blizzards be plentiful in heaven! For sure. Even had his own snowmaker lol

You know we're in snow hell when Pensacola, FL is getting 6-8" and we can't get 4 lol

Something potential brewing 144 hours out. GFS too south for us, Canadian/Icon too far north. What do we think? Worth tracking?
