It’s absolutely maddening that when crude rises, prices at the pump rise the same day… when it drops like today, no movement.

Guess they are only in a hurry to raise prices, not drop them

    Its called futures contracts

In your environment absolutely!  But i doubt it goes away in the clinical setting anytime soon.   I had my 6th colonoscopy (but who's counting).  I went to the endoscopy center vs BIDMC to minimize traffic and allow my wife to park after running around and doing errands while I got reamed, steamed, and dry cleaned....   Naturally the medical staff were masked but i was too.   First time I recall sleeping with a mask on but propofol means who gives a shit.....

    That's what Michael Jackson said.;)

  3. I have mixed feelings about WFH. We can’t run a lab that way and although I manage the group, I still like to get my hands dirty. I come in 5 days a week usually. I could WFH 1-2 days a week, and have here and there if I had somewhere I needed to be at 4 in the afternoon and couldn’t get home without leaving early. I let my lab folks wfh here and there if they are doing some sort of analysis they can do remote or working on their lab notebook all day. But by and large a science enterprise like ours works best on site.
Fir the rest of them, eh. I used to get pissed they were home and we were here, but the caf is easier to get in and out of, your bit running from meeting to meeting in conference rooms. It’s all on Teams. I dunno. I feel bad for the businesses that relied on office folks to make a living.

So we are probably pulling back on the raised beds for this season. We need a fence, and I don’t want to half ass it, and the price of lumber is astronomical. We’re hoping to punt this season and hope for more realistic costs next year

    I was in HD Sunday. 2x4’s we’re $6.99

  5. I'm on an open floor with 80 seats. There are maybe 10 of us up here on a daily basis. Everyone else is still home on Zoom. There's a guy across the floor I'm looking at right now. He's probably 50 feet from me. N95 on.  Meanwhile, I'm typing this with a 3 ply surgical fogging up my glasses.

All of us full time, 5 days week lab people who have been here since this shit started were wearing them pulled down a little so we could actually breathe. Some Sally hybrid who works up here 1 day a week complained and the mask police come around every so often now.

hasn't Mass dropped mandate?  I know businesses can do what they want, but c'mon, enough already.

From your mouth to my employers ear. We cant even wear cloth masks that are breathable. 3 ply surgical or N95/KN95 only. But we can congregate in the lunch room, eat 2 feet part, but damn well better put them back on when you go back to your desk at least 7-8 feet way from your co worker.

I can’t imagine how disruptive this period has been, especially for high schoolers.

Eh. Depends on where the district is. My son is a freshman and he’s had a pretty normal year except for the masks. Been in school everyday, fall football went off without a hitch, homecoming dance, etc. Had a remote day last Friday instead of a snow day. He goes to a multi town vo tech highschool. Right now they have 22 active cases out of 1500 kids and staff.  Meh

It's easy to say its over when you don't have to wear a mask at work all day and your family doesn't have to change flights to an air carrier that will take people from Africa to the US. That doesn't seem over to me.

That sux man! Hope your family gets home ok.

We went back to masks in July. We were out for about 6 weeks at the end of May. That 6 weeks was awesome. But honestly we only wear them past security. Once we get upstairs we pull them down once we get to the desk. And we eat together maskless in the lunch area, so eh.  We refuse to wear them in the lab. Almost 2 years of glasses fogging up is enough.
We still only have about 25% of people coming in to work onsite. It’s still like a tomb and I’m sure next month might be even less people. Actually I kind of like it.
As long as school stays open I’ll be happy. My kids were in school full time, football season went off without a hitch, the boy started every game at strong safety, and both kids had straight As. And nobody has had Covid in my house that we know.

And House says one more year of this, maybe 18 months.

    Happy new year.

$1800 a year on gas for just the pool heater?

My buddy owns a pool company and he said they have insanely efficient inverter driven pool heat pumps now. They operate at a coefficient of performance (cop) of 14. That's an effective efficiency of 1400%. For every 1kw used your sending 14kw into the pool.

I also said I have a fireplace insert and I cook with it too.
I have a pool heat pump too. Basically a big boat anchor. They don’t work on the ends of the pool season when you really want heat. And they use more electricity than touted.

5k for heater and install… I have two large propane tanks- those are free if you sign a contract with a gas co. Those are like $750 to refill. Usually do that twice, this yr 3 times. I’ve figured it heats mine (about 25k gallons) about two degrees per hour. I can’t recommend it enough tbh. This is my 2nd yr with it.

My neighbor put in an electric same time as me and he has to keep it running thurs- sun for weekend activities which I would imagine gets pricey.

I have about the same. I have a 400,000 btu heater. I own my tanks. I have 2, 150 gallon tanks. I fill up maybe 4 times a year but I also have a fireplace insert. I get heating price for the gas which generally runs around $1.80 a gallon. I spend around $1800 a year for gas. With the heater we use the pool from early May into October.

Heater was $1800 and I installed it myself. I bought my tanks. Cost of the install, final heater connection and permit was $2000. If you have natural gas it’s much cheaper to install. And natural gas cost less than half of propane on a btu basis.

Prius owners often wake to find their car sounding like a obnoxiously loud performance exhaust After their cats are snipped . They have some of the highest amount of precious metals .

My car has cats that are difficult to get at and crooks tend to favor the easier targets . Many Go for 500-600 in scrap value which is often 40% of total metal values .

My brother got both his snipped out from his Tundra while he was in a restaurant a couple weeks ago. Happened in Dallas.

  12. I even stacked my lounge chairs up on the pool deck, took the umbrella out of its stand, moved the deck box under cover, and got 15 gallons of gas for the Ginny. Not to mention I got to drag the generator back down to the shed. Gonna need a hellava lot of snow this winter to burn that much gas in the Ariens.
