I recall going to a track meet at UNH in April of 93 or 94. It was the 1st outdoor meet of the season. We left Umaine and by the time we got there, it was 40-ish and raining. They did the long jump then called the rest of it off. I was supposed to run the 400m. Glad it was cancelled.

My son runs the 100, 4x100, and long jump.  First meet was April 4th. 38 degrees, 20 mph wind and drizzle. Was miserable.
I’m at Foley in Worcester right now. It’s 57 but there’s no sun and it’s not what you’d call balmy. Standing here waiting for the javelin to be over so the 2 mile can start is not pleasant.

  2. Unfortunately high school spring sports are in Rectal season. Mid 50's  and sheet drizzle to run 5 miles is fine, I guess. But not so much trying to play high school baseball or trying to stay limber to run a 100 m, much less trying to sit out and watch it.

Hopefully it turns in 10 days or so.

  3. If I could, I wouldn't go to Florida in the winter. I'd bail out of here March 30 and come back May 15th-ish. Except for the green up, I have zero use for April weather in New England. Less than zero actually.

  4. Starbucks flat white is not bad. But you can’t beat Cumbies 99 cents. Make it yourself ice coffee, 3 sugars light. But I generally drink hot coffee black, no sugar.
McDonalds makes pretty good coffee. It used to be awful, but I find it really good since they changed to Newmans 6-7 years ago.

Theres a greasy spoon diner in Whitinsville that makes damn good coffee. Open 6-2, cash only.

  5. DD used to be better.  The consistency was pretty good. Now its a crap shoot. Depends if there some Jagoff making the coffee and burning the shyte out of it or not. The donuts suck because they aren't made local anymore. One or 2 centralized bakeries and they are shipped out. , Blech!

On the mRNA vax, one thing I really neglected taking into account and that's everyone's efficiency at making the spike protein antigen is probably different. So while everyone got the same dose of mRNA, the ability of the person to make more or less spike is different.  People who make too much can absolutely have deleterious side effects. And the virus mutates to damn fast. Nobody saw that either. I still believe in the technology, but a respiratory virus has never been easy to vax for, so I'm not sure this was the best test of how well and mRNA vax works. It's edemic in the population now. It'll be here forever. Get on with life.

And we have a guy that works the front desk at work and he wears a duckbill N95 everyday for the last 3 years. They'll bury him with it I'm sure. And he's had covid twice. Go figure.

Top 10 spring day here in Whitinsville today, IMO

    Herpes!

    Basically.

50% of the population has herpes, at least, probably more. (Herpes zoster isn't the classic herpes, but its in the same family). I hazard to guess there are some on this board with it. Its a skin condition caused by a virus. Never should have been labeled an STD.

    Oh you will melt quickly

That's the plus about March snow.

And I hate backloaded winter (if you can call what we went thru winter).

Highschool spring sports start next week (baseball, T&F, LaCrosse).   Bad enough having kids run and compete in 40 degree weather. My son runs the 100m and 4x100. Hard enough to get stretched out at 50 degrees, much less 40.  Spring sports shouldn't start till mid April, but then it would be tough get the season in before the end of school.

I used to really love fall and used to have equal love for all seasons but as I get older I hate fall and winter more and more. If anything it's just because of the cold. I used to have a higher tolerance for cold but not as much anymore. I honestly think driving is what lowered my tolerance for cold. I didn't get my driver's license until I was almost 26 so before then I used to walk everywhere (or take a bus...which still required walking) so in the winter's I was used to walking 1-2+ miles in the cold/wind/snow. It's just the cold/wind that drives me nuts. Snow I still love.

I hate the cold too. But i hate March and April more. I have less than zero use for those 2 months. If I could leave NE and go south March 1st and return Mother Day, I'd be happy.

I was expecting more sun and warmer temps than we have in Westborough.

    77 and cloudy.

I could use a little more sun. This week has been a little too cloudy for my liking. Bring the dews up to 60 would be good too. Its July, not September.

    I watched the game ...

It seemed to me there were intangible dynamics going on... Maybe even ego-related.   But, the Celtics relaxed ... just oh so little but enough on defense to allow Golden State to steal that win.

And it was a steal on their part - though they'll be the last to think so, no doubt!  They were trailing for most of that game - then something happened in the 4th Q that I feel is pretty connectable to 'maturity' as basket ballers.

The Celtics seemed to get into a 3 pt shooting contest with Poole and Curry.  They fell for it.  They fell for the old "oh yeah - we can shoot too" game.  They should have stuck to what they were doing, which was solid perimeter D with Williams and their size shutting down the interior.  That should work against this adversary.  They may be able to match them at some point or another in a shoot out - but they didn't need to,  and getting into that mode last night (crucially) in a 3 or 4 minute window approaching mid way through the 4th, put GS in control.

    Idiots.

It was a bad offensive decision to engage with GS, at GS's game.  GS leans offense on their opponents at at all times, such that moment the D lays off they've already scored something like a 8-2 run. Boom.  The Celtics relaxed just enough, GS leaned, the CS tried to do it back and couldn't hit their shots.  Again...they didn't need to do that.

Tatum wasn't terrible.  I don't know about the 'whole stardom' aspect.  Frankly, I think Brown's been better as of late.

All that’s negated if they don’t turn the ball over. When they turn the ball over 15 times, they lose.

Day 4 is much better than days 2&3.  Sore throat just about gone.  Less loopy.  Took the dog on a loop this morning.  Feels weird not leaving my little street since Tuesday

I was over it in 5 days. So was my kid.
That no smell thing is weird.  I couldn’t smell anything. I mopped the floor with pinesol, couldn’t smell it. Cologne, bathroom spray, you name it.
I went to an outdoor event last Saturday and used a porta potty. Nasty thing. I could have stayed in there and camped out no problem. Couldn’t smell shit, literally.
I started smelling stuff on Wednesday. Son never lost smell.

  12. Who needs to install? I flipped the switch earlier in the week. Was hot upstairs.
And after 2 years, the Rona finally got me. My 80yo mother came up and brought it. Started a dry cough 2 days before she went home. She was her 4 days so I assume she had it before she got here. Anyway, I got sick 2 days after she left. She texted me on a Tuesday that she had it, I was sick Wednesday. Not bad. I’ve had worse head colds. Lasted about 5 days. Son got it, his was the same. Head cold. Wife and daughter were spared.
Kinda glad we got it and it’s over actually.
    Mom is fine.
