  1. The last 48 or so hours of weather really does strike home the overall harshness of our climate.  Spring is just so damn slow to materialize in these parts.  Here we are approaching 2 months to the summer solstice and we've endured a battering ram of cold rain, snow squalls, and gusty winds going on 2 days.  Maybe having my daughter studying abroad in the Netherlands, at a much more northern latitude at that, reporting all sorts of spring wonders (sun, frequent temps in the 60's to 70, full green-up) for the last 3 weeks has soured my view on our climate.

Our positioning in the global wave train coming out of northern hemisphere winter just...hurts.  It's like the frozen water of James Bay is a giant middle finger pointed right at us.  We have to endure weeks and weeks of damp, gray, disgusting discharge from the Canadian prairies as the seasons slowly change...All while plebians in D.C. just an hour plane ride to the south get high on the scent of cherry blossoms, and Euro's in Amsterdam several tics of latitude to our north get high on...other stuff.

    Ok, rant over...

Well that was a fun one fore sure as I had to get some sleep after tracking that band all day long !  I measured a whopping 21.6" in several spots with a few drifts approaching 5ft in my yard and I think if the first 6" didn't blow away I would of measured 26", lol!

Congrats!!  That's a memorable event for sure. Did the band make it down to the airport?  Wondering if the Cuse just passed BUF in the seasonal snowfall totals...

Forecast uncertainty increases by Wednesday. The GFS has been
very persistent over the past few days in bringing a notable
clipper system across the Great Lakes, with a shield of
accumulating snow crossing our region. The ECMWF has been
equally persistent in keeping this feature much weaker and
suppressed, with no more than a few light snow showers in our
area. The Canadian GEM continues to be a compromise solution
with a light snowfall across the region. Given the continued
model uncertainty, will keep POPS in the chance range for now.
If this snow does materialize, it will end later Wednesday night
as the system moves to the eastern seaboard.

A strengthening area of low pressure will track from the western
Ohio Valley across northern Pennsylvania and cross the Central Great Lakes Friday night into
Saturday afternoon. With this system precipitation snow will overspread
the area, initially as snow then changing to rain as warm air
advection increases ahead of an accompanying cold front with the potential for significant accumulations across the entire American Weather Forum, Upstate NY region. Winds
behind this area of low pressure will increase and wind headlines
may be needed for Sunday. Behind this area of low pressure a large
trough will persist through this time period with the potential for
snow showers across the area and lake effect snow off of both lakes,
especially the more ice free Lake Ontario, where a multi lake
connection looks possible. After months of frustration, TugHill Matt will end his season with a bang, setting a record for a March lake effect event.

    Fixed.

Got up to 59 degrees here today. Absolutley obliterated the snowpack with full sunshine for several hours. Temp has since slipped back down to 50 but our snowpack is down to about 6” now. Will likely be wiped out after tomorrow. Forecast was for 45 degrees today and we almost hit 60!

Yeah, we roasted here in WNY. I drove home from NYC this morning and the thermometer kept climbing the whole way. Even had the windows down when the blowtorch really kicked in west of the Genny valley. Meanwhile, I think northeaster NY up around Plattsburgh is in the teens today with some snow.

Last night, about 4 inches and the band shortened to miss us mostly.  Lol. The LES has SUCKED for the Southern Tug. Got 16 inches during the course of the week, so not a total shut out....but it was literally 4 periods of 4 inch snowfalls.

2 feet on the ground...I bet areas north have 4 to 5.

Par for the course man. No single spot is ever guaranteed big accumulations when it comes to lake effect snow. Some seasons will favor w/wsw flows, others will be w/wnw.  Yet others will spread the wealth. You’re in a great spot over the long term average to get big events. And like you said, not like it’s been a total shutout. 2’ OTG is still big time!

Just got back from a two hour jebwalk. It might have been the greatest thing I've ever seen. Crushed isn't even the word.

Will post pics and video after a beer.

Not sure what my total is, but TWC just reported 26.8" one mile south of Watertown. It's accumulating in real time. This is insane and if this band is slow to drop south I'm not sure I'm going to be able to keep my clothes on.

Congrats!!  Love it when a chase works out. And being in a band like you’ve been in is just a phenomenal experience.

Just having a really hard time getting the Ontario stuff into town. It's snowing lightly, and it's windy, but the rates are not there to pile things up. Radar just doesn't look good looks epic with a band crushing the north side of Watertown right now.

Fixed it for you...If you're not in it now, you must be close enough to smell it...
