  1. Don’t give up yet! These are always nowcasting events when you’re talking about a few miles being the difference between a few inches and a a foot plus. And I’m still stubbornly optimistic with that low position sitting near Lake Superior that we end up with a longer residence time north of BUF.
  2. Excited to see how this plays out. Sub 980 low near Lake Superior holding tight with intensity and placement while the Arctic cold front is east of NY is prime time for immediate BUF area lake effect interests. Any chance we get some feeder moisture from Lake Michigan with this setup?
  3. Amazing storm for most of CNY! As a Weedsport native it’s a bit tough seeing the pics and snow totals coming in. Looks like a classic nor’easter/enhancement event, one for the books. Enjoy!!!
  4. Steady snow here, brisk northeast wind, visibility lowering, face freezing in the snow. Perfect.
  5. Snow picked back up here again after another nice little burst between 12 and 1. Very cool to watch the radar and see snow moving due east down the 90. Don’t see that very often!
  6. Just saw that too and had the same thought. Please pull whatever string you can to lock that right in.
  7. Surprised to see it snowing this morning here. Pretty nice snowfall right now actually with thick cloud deck and maybe some fog mixed in.
  8. Quick interlude on the upcoming storm discussion...The 12Z Euro at day 6-8 is an atmospheric powder keg for the northeast. Didn’t check if other models have anything at that time, but wow...
  9. So BUF managed to break double digits for Jan snowfall thanks to the 2” of cotton balls that fell the last few days. Finished at 10” for the month, 20” below 30” average. 13” fell last Jan, so the last 2 Jan’s combined are still 7” below normal. Have to think the 10” this month is top 10 lowest...? Hope I’m wrong, but I would be very surprised if BUF breaks an inch with this next system.

  11. Nope, straight up Miller A. Storm formed over Texas, crossed the northern Gulf, then headed towards the Chesapeake. That’s where it got fun for upstate NY. The Low bombed out, went full bore negative tilt, then tracked n/nw to Montreal. The kind of track we all dream about for max synoptic and lake enhancement.
  12. Yeah you can almost see it pile up here as the huge flakes settle slowly to the ground. Awesome out right now!
  13. Does what the latest GFS is showing have any other model support? Not sure how it does it but it piles up snow from the system early next week.
  14. Nice burst of moderate snow just blossomed overhead. Lovely big fatties.
  15. Awesome little thumper event here. Starting to lighten up but it ripped good for a couple hours. Probably end up with close to 3 inches. Happy sight for us snow starved Buffalo northtowners
  16. It really is!! Wonder if there are any cabins up there where you could hunker down and ride out one of these storms. If so, sign me up!
  17. I would normally agree but with this strong blocking up top I could see this actually trending south with time as it gets squished by the confluent flow. Not like we’re looking at a big hit either way though but would be nice to stay all frozen.
  18. Something remarkable happened at BUF yesterday...We had our first below normal day in 23 days and the first one in January. That makes a paltry 2 out of the last 35 or so days below normal.
  19. Game day, let’s go Bills!!! Chance of rain in KC? Don’t think we want that, need our passing game to fire on all cylinders.
  20. Wonder if we’ll see a broad area of light snow develop across the Niagara Frontier tonight as the cold front approaches. Upstream radars are fairly active over southern Ontario. Probably won’t amount to more than an inch or 2, but anything is welcome at this point IMBY to cover the grass again.
  21. Yeah it does, and the radar in lower MI is juicy right now. I haven’t really looked at the forecast for Lake Erie lake effect but just based on what’s upstream I would guess the southern part of Erie County and points south will get another nice hit tonight. Will be some great skiing and shoeing down there for at least the next week. Winter is alive and well!!

  23. About 10” of new snow in Sardinia (far southern Erie County). Nothing fell during my hike (9-1), little over 12” OTG there. We had maybe 0.5” last night IMBY, enough to whiten things up until the temp climbed over freezing again and now back to all green.
  24. Nice! I’m headed to ECF in Sardinia for a sunrise hike tomorrow, might actually need the snowshoes.
