Not all Ninas are complete ratters like this one.
yeah this feels fundamentally different in terms of the wholesale absence of winter

And New York City and Boston and Albany and Rochester... and just about any of city on the East Coast. This is not a Mid Atlantic thing... This is an East Coast thing. When the West usually get blasted we get screwed and vise versa.
to me the most unnerving thing is that it's not like we've had shots of freak warmth (although we might get that next week). Sure, we've gotten to around 70, but it isn't THAT atypical for a given winter for it to happen once or twice. It's just been... mild - basically wall to wall. It hasn't felt like winter at all except for a few fleeting moments.

Frederick is the new Asheville, Bmore is the new Raleigh, and Charlotte is the new DC...
...at least until the PDO trends positive.
Sort of kidding, but not totally.
i mean that's basically how this winter has played out. DC's winter has looked like a typical Charlotte, NC winter.

Not that I want California to burn down, but I have appreciated the ridge west/trough east summers lately. I’m not looking forward to the next time we have a summer 2010-2012 pattern.
i honestly don't think we're ready for it when that inevitably comes.

I'm in LA just for the night and it's colder here than back in DC lol

81 was a mess early this morning. Had to be in Staunton by 7:00. Left Winchester at 5. Saw at least 6 wrecks in that 90 mile stretch. Black ice is nasty.
low 50s here already lol

Only the NFL could take a truly outstanding game and fucking completely ruin it in the final moments. It's almost impressive.

Any significant snow reports?
Cantore retweeted some guy at a higher elevation in VA with snow falling (but not accumulating).

I'll take that bet.
just a matter of time before we get a taste of some of those obscene heat waves seen in Western North America or Europe the past couple of years.

I'm all in on this week. I biked yesterday and kinda sore, but might be spotty showers around tomorrow so I may need to cave and get another session in while the iron's hot.
yep - no point in it being cold if it's not gonna snow imo

That is true. I guess I'm just not seeing any sharp difference that would suddenly lead to snow to just shut off. I mean I have no horse in this race so I don't care, but I just have a feeling it's a lot of bad luck and DC is bound to get slammed one of these years soon. It apparently had no problem snowing in years past in what you or i would consider an inferno winter. An average DC Winter in the cold 1970s would be the warmest Winter on record for Detroit or Chicago. Everything's relative.
an increase of just 1 or 2 degrees in the mean can mean a huge difference for the actual effects of such a change.

i wanna say it feels like spring, but with only brief punctuations of actual winter, we seemingly have gone from late Fall to early Spring.

PSU, poor job all around. I encourage you to read the words that I actually write instead of resorting to snarky, strawman arguments. I don't think this is the best version of you. But I'm confident nobody wants to read any more of this back and forth. Let's just root for snow.
lol you are welcome to not post in this sub if you have issues here.

Something to consider:
What if we all were standing out in a cold, raw rain...and for whatever reason somebody felt the need to say "It's raining!" every 5 minutes...as if we didn't know that already? Lol I mean...if it was painfully obvious to everybody else, would it still be valuable to hear somebody say that every 5 mins? Sure, they'd be 100% correct that it's raining...but after awhile...would an already miserable crowd not be justified and saying "Yes, we know!"?
That's not at all analogous to what we are dealing with. We are getting insightful analysis of the short & medium term - it's just nearly uniformly bad if you want snow.
