I think it’s awful, why would i think otherwise. I’m not sure where you’re getting this idea that I’m a bad guy. I’m just very patriotic and I think people don’t realize what a great Country we live in and don’t appreciate the freedoms we have that most places don’t. So my mindset is if it upsets you so much then don’t complain all day and just move somewhere else that is more to your liking. Good luck finding that though.
Just because there are some incredible aspects to this country (which are currently being destroyed), that doesn't mean there aren't legitimate criticisms either. I've actually lived abroad - yes, the US is a unique, incredible place. But it has plenty of flaws, and it isn't immune from the type of self-destruction that has afflicted other great powers in our past. So don't fucking tell someone to pack up and leave just because they have some criticism or negative opinion about what is going on. It's my goddamn right to say whatever I want about how the country is faring.

Does reducing the noaa work force by 9% equal hobbling?
given that it's already pretty badly understaffed? yeah.

Ok i'll seek help, but definitely not from a mentally unstable individual such as yourself.
you actually haven't stated what you think about all this. Do you think it's a good idea to hobble NOAA and NWS with indiscriminate firings? Or are you just going to be a coward and lob attacks at other posters?

How do you talk to someone like this. You need to seek serious professional help. I really hope you get it before you do something crazy.
you told me to leave the country for expressing a negative view on its current health - maybe seek help yourself.

You're going to give yourself a seizure up in here. Take a chill. You're showing way too much of your NY side.
I'm doing just fine - the country is not.

Decimating NOAA should be discussed here. It’s a weather forum ffs. If you think this is somehow ok *somehow* you really shouldn’t be here.
as should climate, and myriad other related topics that some snowflakes on here crumble at their mere mention by screaming "politics!!". Honestly - this is a weather and science board. If talking about weather and science is too much for your precious ears, leave.

Looks like Zach Labe was fired (if anyone follows his great stuff on the Arctic/Antarctic, among other things).

Go pound sand dude. Hope you are enjoying the scientific and research supremacy that the US has enjoyed for a century getting ripped to shreds.

Got some yard work done today, sun felt great this afternoon. Some daffodils already blooming in the neighborhood. My crocus are blooming. #spring
spring is where we get payback most years for getting less snow than NYC-BOS (although we have more snow than NYC so far this year). Spring here is generally very pleasant. Spring in NYC is up and down, and in BOS it's fucking awful (basically anywhere close to the water it sucks). The backdoors and sea breezes can give you days on end with temps 45-50 and fog while DC south is 75+.

High of 43F at DCA - clearly HUGE issues with the set up there. Probably should toss the whole thing.

We're at the city house this weekend and my wife is having one of her power-broker ladies meet-ups at our house. I'm hopelessly outnumbered and outclassed. So I retreated to the sun (moon?) porch for a cigar....and it's fucking cold out! That damn wind just won't quit. I'm purposefully saving my authentic Cuban cohiba for a warm day to enjoy outside and it feels like it'll never come!
yeah it was pretty brutal in our corner of the city - just incessant wind. My daughter was not long for playing at the Janney playground after school lol.

Oddly enough I worked there 1998 to 2008. Transferred out to Potomac Tracon out in Vint Hill VA where I ultimately retired in 2023. Flying is still safe. The FAA is going to be pulled through the ringer for allowing that helo operation. I hated it when I worked there. We were always taught to use positive control on the Helo's when they were near the airport. The controller did almost everything correctly and even reached out to the helo to ask if he had the arrival in sight and to pass behind. The problem was, the helo had the wrong aircraft.
the air traffic through there is completely insane. Needs to be completely re-designed.
