I would love to see a crippling ice storm. Unscheduled vacation without electricity for all!
you shut your whore mouth -- the ice storm the northern MD areas got in Feb 2014 was terrible. No power for a day, couldn't leave the house until later in the day due to trees down, a one-year old at home. F-that.

for me personally:
Jan 2000
Dec 2009
Jan 96
Feb 2010 (both)
The Jan 2000 storm is what got me into weather, so I can't diss it. But do remember the 96 storm quite well and it was amazing. I will always be biased for Dec 2009, for obvious reasons.

Your blog was tweeted by someone I follow & I read it there. Great write up. My Mom said it was a fairly somber day in Joplin yesterday. (heightened by the events in Moore I'm sure) After moving there from the Ft Lauderdale area. She is more certain than ever she will spend the rest of her life in Joplin. The will of the people there along with the kindness just over whelm her. She had to stop by Wal Mart yesterday & a random group of people where collecting the same supplies JoMo spoke about to send to Moore. She pitched in and did her part & then just broke down. When I talked to her last night she was just astounded by the acts of the people in the Midwest.
Thanks for visiting the site! Your mom is a good person

Using the data released by the Springfield office (as linked above). I wrote up a blog post for ustornadoes.com about the 2-year anniversary. Includes some radar images, and a few maps.

Thank you to JoMo, who took the time to compile a list of videos taken along the path of the tornado. I used some of them in one of the maps.
Thinking of Joplin today.

There was a massive pile of snow where 295 meets the Inner Loop as you come to the Wilson Bridge that was still there well into April, if I recall correctly. It's one of the few spots in that section where they could pile the snow up without interfering with traffic. And I remember all the dirt, grit, and grime that was left behind from that pile - it was pretty nasty and it took a long time for it to get washed away that summer.
I remember parts of 295 (up near me) where merge lanes weren't plowed all the way. I went to work one day between the storms and got to the end of the in ramp and had to come to a screeching stop. I was either going to drive straight into a snow bank or onto 295 traffic. Was really bad and am lucky I didn't cause an accident because of it. I called SHA as soon as I got to work to complain. It was plowed that day.

At this point 3yrs ago, I was a little tipsy following my rehearsal dinner, and waiting for the snow to start in Frederick.

"4. Please respect the professionals that post here. They will make forecasts as they are comfortable but continued pestering or badgering of them will result in the quickest exit from this board"
Since when are you a professional in geology?

Ahem. Storm mode. no useless posts plzkthxbi
Agreed, trolling in other subforums is not allowed.

I'm pretty sure that's the case. I'm gonna start writing books too. F it.
Thats the only way I see it.
There is constructive criticism to improve things and then there is simply throwing an organization under the bus to benefit yourself and your private weather business.

No. I'm talking about folks (MIke) looking for things that are wrong that are not worng...such as the storm track of the Joplin storm and the "no mention of Joplin" in the warning statements. Those are false accusations.
Gotta profit off a tragedy somehow

Nice, make the map clickable linked to the Vids would be cooler.
Ian didn't give me enough notice to make that, happen

The location of this video (Over by JHS has been posted)
It was taken at 24th and Minnesota, it's on the same street as the Home Security video posted above but 3 blocks farther north. The NWS survey has the center crossing very close to this house.
Lot of cussing:
Those people are incredibly lucky
