    Gfs is a weekend washout

May salvage Sunday afternoon but temps look to be around 50

Yeah GFS is much different that CMC and EURO. CMC and EURO are dry for Saturday and don't bring the rain in until early Sunday morning.

A very backdoor April with LGA having the coolest averages relative to the means due to the easterly flow off the Long Island Sound.

Lee Goldberg pointed out that there were actually more below normal days than above normal days in April.  NYC had 17 below normal compared to 13 above, but overall the month was 2 degrees above normal because we had some big torch days. Obviously the above normal days tend to be more impressive than the below normal days.

I like a combo of cool and warm weather too, as long as it's sunny on most days.  Rain once a week or once every 10 days.  I can do without mist and fog though, that's pretty much useless.

Yep I love variety with weather. I love a winter with plenty of warm days but also some big snowstorms.

well the party is finally over here the sea breeze has kicked in :(

Still hanging on to 89 degrees here, but I know it won't last much longer. Should have a pretty good drop here around 5pm.

I enjoy a few torch days this time of year, but I wouldn't want it consistently hot this early. May is the big lettuce month, and obviously the lettuce crop wouldn't be as good if it was hot all the time. I can wait until June for the consistent hot weather. I'm glad we're going back to more normal highs in the 60s and 70s after today.

Beautiful morning! Can’t wait for this to be everyday two weeks from now

    76 already!!!

Gotta enjoy it today! Back to the cool east winds the next couple days. At least it appears that there won't be any more cold weather where there would be a threat a frost. I think it's safe to plant the warm weather vegetables like tomatoes now. I'll be doing that Thursday and Friday.

Looks like another round of heavier showers moving through

Had a decent downpour here. Didn't last long but it delivered a quick quarter of an inch of rain. The soil was very dry, so I'm glad we got a watering.

Had a high temp of 80. Looking for 87 or 88 tomorrow. We might get another little downpour with the backdoor cold front during the afternoon.

Lost a couple leaf lettuce plants, a cauliflower and basil last night. Wasn't ready. Lettuce, despite being a cooler weather crop, is mostly water, so if it's cold, forget it. Supposed to water them the day before a frost, wasn't expecting ice on the windows today. I mean, it's freakin late April.

The thing is though, lettuce is supposed to be planted in late March in this area. If you plant lettuce now, it's way too late of a start since it will be maturing in weather that's too warm. Maybe leaf lettuce is more vulnerable, but I've never had a problem with my romaine lettuce plants taking a frost/freeze. I was just outside and they still look great after last last night's freeze. No problem for the broccoli, peas and radishes as well. I did water very well yesterday. My lettuce is just about ready and I'm gonna pick some today.

Pattern looks locked in for a while.  No meaningful rain next 7-10 days, perhaps even beyond.  Wet corridor next week or so running from Texas to western Lakes.  Some excessive totals likely there.  Dry here.  Overall soil moisture is in good shape as are watershed supplies.  Topsoil will dry notably over the next week though.  On the bright side the grass seed I planted is doing well.  Light watering daily is enough and no heavy rain to wash it away.  Timed that right.

The soil has really dried out here. I'm watering the vegetable garden every other day now. I'd like to see some rain, but as you said it appears the pattern will be dry for quite awhile. A couple chances next week (Tuesday and Friday), but they don't look impressive right now. I hope this isn't gonna be a case of going from one extreme to another after the very wet pattern we had.

The cold is more of  a problem than lack of rainfall for those-- we already have way too much rain.

I grow those myself-- peppers need hot weather to grow well.

Tomatoes do very well in the heat, but I've found that peppers don't like it too hot. They often slow down during very hot periods in the summer. I usually get my best crop of peppers during the early fall when it has cooled off.

nws forecast as of this morning does not call for 70 tomorrow...

It hit 72 here today. I knew today would overperform for my area.

And if doesn't rain Wednesday we could be looking at another week of dry weather effectively ending April

I cut the lawn for the first time this season today, and there was actually some dry dirt flying. Never would have imagined that a couple weeks ago. We were in such a wet pattern with constantly saturated soil. The ground is pretty dry now, and as you said it looks like dry weather moving forward. We definitely needed a good drying out period, but I think a week or so from now it'll be getting to the point that I'll want rain again.

NWS has upper 60s for my area tomorrow, but we often overperform on sunny days. I wouldn't be surprised to see 70.

It's in the 60s and sunny aka normal April weather.

It's not like it's a dreary multi day onshore flow event with temps in the 40s and 50s.

The weather is beautiful and will be in the 70s soon.

We might hit 70 tomorrow. At least upper 60s.

I agree that today is a beautiful day. 63 here right now. Great weather for exercising outside.

I saw annuals out at Home Depot this weekend-seemed a bit early for that.  At least here you need to wait until 5/7 or so to be safe from frost

Yeah I cringe when I'm at stores and see tomato plants out this early. I'm sure there was some damage this morning with the temps near freezing.

I thought that too-but there are a bunch up for tonight...

    Map of Forecast Area

People would be foolish to have warm weather stuff like tomatoes in the garden this early. I still just have cold tolerant vegetables like broccoli and lettuce in the garden right now. Important to wait until early May for the stuff that's sensitive to frost in this area, but I guess they put up these frost advisories for people that plant too early.

  16. Nasty today. Only 51 degrees here right now.

Not much to talk about for awhile. Finally in a dry pattern. Maybe just a shower on Wednesday. Pretty much just normal temps (maybe slightly below a couple days) for late April over the next week with highs in the 60s. Boring weather ahead, but I'm ok with boring for awhile after all the rain we've had in recent months.

    Yup…what happened?

I was wondering the same thing. Only 0.01 here. So much for the rain event, but this is still miserable weather with temps barely hitting 50 today.

Looking forward to breaking out of this on Saturday with temps well up into the 60s. Monday and Tuesday look nice too with temps well up into the 60s and possibly near 70. Too bad another significant cooldown will likely be coming mid to late next week though, as Bluewave has been pointing out.

Most models had well under a tenth

Yeah definitely more than we thought. Latest HRRR shows this band pretty well with about a quarter inch across our area.

Yeah raining now and a touch of lightning. Nothing heavy yet

We might get a third of an inch out of it. Decent batch of moderate rain incoming.
