I'm not sure that they're any more severe than other storms, but when the storms ride out ahead of cold fronts with the type of bulk shear and unidirectional flow that we have today, they can be longer lived and more widespread.

I've had no more measurable rain today at my weather station, but two miles away at my local park was a different story. I had about 1 minute left of an 11 mile run when I got dumped on. lol Oh well, it felt good anyway.
Had a couple very close strikes of lightning around 6:30 am that woke me up. Picked up 1.12 inches of rain this morning. All the cars look like new again! Goodbye pollen.
