This kind of answered my question but I'd like clarification please. I booked a room in Lake George NY for April 7-9, so I'll be less than an hour from the south edge of the path of totality. If I only drive to the southern edge is the 100% totality just seconds long then as opposed to right in the center where it will be 3-4 minutes?

What college? It's not often you hear of others on crew teams in college. I was on crew at the University of Wisconsin. Grueling sport, the football coach would send players he wanted to punish to workout with us. A different era, if a coach did that now the kid would probably enter the transfer portal the next day and the coach might get reprimanded for invading the kids safe space. No weather to speak of. As a former seven year resident of New Windsor that moved 30 years ago to highland mills, I can certainly verify that as fact. The best 8 mile move I could have made snow wise. Just wish at the time I had the foresight to purchase a north facing front lawn.

Yes Binghamton actually set their all time record from one storm in that event. I believe it was 40.0 inches even.

It is amazing what a March sun and a 38 degree day will do to what was yesterday a 10 inch, albeit briefly, snowpack. Started this morning with 9 inches otg and was about 5 by sunset. The same temperature in mid December or early January we would barely lose an inch of that. Just another reason I prefer December snow over Mid and late March.

You know the big problem this would solve, the constant references like "oh boy just saw the Euro we're done". And I always think who's done? It's a big forum, is Suffolk done Nassau, the Jersey coast, SW CT, Orange Sussex and Putnam, NYC? I dream of a world where we can declare the GFS says we're done for zones 1 & 2, but 5 & 6 get buried. Rgem just annihilated zones 3 & 4, 5 & 6 not so much. I wholeheartedly endorse this list. And as much as I love Dons posts, I wish he could take out Philadelphia from the daily updates and any reference to it. Regarding the zones you propose Philadelphia is only relevant to a small portion of zone 2, no others. They have their own forum let them stay there. Maybe substitute HPN for Philadelphia in the temperature references? In the updates it much better serves regions 2-6 than any reference to Philadelphia. Just one Eagle hating persons opinion.

According to the NWS most recent guidelines the snowfall for the day is the maximum depth measured during the day so in your case 10 inches. According to the @IrishRob17most recent guidelines the depth is measured to the nearest inch which for you this morning would be 8 inches and for my purposes 9 inches. Just kidding with Rob of course as the depth measurements are also the NWS guidelines. One editorial comment. The new guidelines, passed several years ago I believe, replaced the old guidelines which were wipe the board clean every six hours and total at the end of the day and begin anew at midnight. For official reporting sites I always thought that made the most sense. For average people like us, I do consider myself a little above average, it should not be this complicated, we do the best we can and go with it. That is all for today. You could think what you want, no one can stop you LOL, but NYC'S 30 year average is 29.8 inches and it's 153 year average is 28.7 inches. I know you like long term averages so let's say 29 then. I don't know exactly what Bostons 30 year average is but I'm pretty sure it's close to 49 inches.

A hollow victory them, their winter has been as bad as NYC's considering their average is almost 50 inches and NYC's is 30 inches.

Somewhat related to that, I'm across the river in Highland Mils in Orange County at 600 feet. The maximum depth on my snow board was 10.3 inches around 3:00 pm after the last heavy snow band passed through and it snowed lightly until about 7:00. Despite it being later in the day and below freezing 31° the depth of the snow had already compressed to 9 inches two hours later at 5:00 pm. I'm at 8.8 inches this morning so most of the settling and compression seems to have occurred during those first couple of hours after the snow intensity decreased drastically. My point being those that are measuring this morning or even last night after the snow was over are not getting a true total from the storm.

I’m not sure but I think that ties their all time lowest season if it stays at 0.3. Maybe Don or Chris can verify that.

10.3 inches here should do it. 28.8 now for the season. Great storm but stating the obvious, if this happened in January or February at 5 degrees colder it’s a 20 inch plus easy. Reiterating Gravity’s point, I measured 10.3 on the board when snow letup a little after three, and just checked and the board now has 9 inches. I think this might have been 15 if it all came at night. I will never mock the March sun angle people again. Now the ones that start that crap in early February I’ll always mock.

Looks like 10.3 inches will do it here. Brings my seasonal total to 28.8. Great storm up here 50 miles NNW of Central Park at 600 feet elevation, but this Winter is still a rock solid F and no Mid or late March or even April storms will undo that.

I would think by 5 pm the effect will be negligible. The problem is will these bands be around by then? Over 9 inches here now, 2 inches in the last hour sitting underneath the band over the Hudson and Eastern Orange County.
