You sure about that? Climate change says this is the new normal. There might be blips here and there but winters like this (and even warmer) are here to stay.It all averages out to...average. It kinda has to.

Where'd this wind come from tonight?!

Had to run into town this morning.

Looks like the north end of my property will get a couple inches while the south end will get a DAB.

Exceeding my notably low expectations. Got 2” or so down with some solid “hallmark Christmas movie” snow falling right now.
Lots of melting already here on the south side.

OK, ready for spring. I made reservations today to go trout fishing the first weekend of March in eastern Tennessee.

So... as we will be getting to the halfway point of met winter pretty soon, how would you grade winter so far?
So far I'd say it's a B+. If it wasn't for that miserable cold and wind around Christmas, It would have a shot at being an A.
(Not everyone is a winter lover, and not everyone can move someplace warmer.)

Something is wrong in that, what I assume to be a personal station output, as it froze my computer up. Also unless there was a long power interruption, that does not make sense.
No power outage. That's from my weather station right after the thunderstorm moved through.

Temp hit 0° here, so I decided to drive down to the road to get my mail and check on the situation.
It's cold
It's windy
We got minimal snow (I'd guess an inch)
The power company hasn't shut down the wind turbines yet.
Overall, it's a run of the mill mid to high end storm, yet not anything we haven't seen before here at our home.
I'd give it a 7/10 so far.

2 or 3 yrs back, MR models flashed a 979 mb SLP east of Detroit. I remember somebody in here @Stebo ? commenting how that basically never happens and ofc it promptly vanished the next run.

The public is gonna talk shit about meteorologists no matter what. They don't understand how difficult forecasting based on their knowledge and not just looking at models really is. For instance my SIL texted me asking me if we are getting a huge storm because everybody at her work is talking about it. Meanwhile we might get an inch but driving when the front comes through is gonna be a nightmare regardless.
Yup. I'm getting some grief because we rescheduled some family Christmas Eve events. We had to make a decision at least four days ahead due to catering and that was at a time when Chicago was in the 12"-15" zone. AS it stands now, it's a complete hype storm and nothing we haven't seen dozens of times before.
