  1. Wow, thanks for linking those stories BW. I knew those cells looked intense and slow moving. Lots of runoff and low lying spots in that city too. A bad combination.
  2. I would expect some flash flooding in Toronto right now. Very potent and virtually stationary cell pounding the western city and western suburbs.
  3. Lake Erie has an insatiable appetite for convection this year. It just destroys everything. The 12z 3km NAM modeled it perfectly. Explosive convection of Southern Ontario just getting decimated as it entered NY state. Brutal stuff for those of us who like storms. Unlike most of you, I am loving this heat and humidity. It's perfect, we get both intense summers and intense winters, the best of both worlds. Plus fall is usually long and fantastic.
  4. Yeah, very hit or miss setup. Some places will get 3-5 inches while others get less than a half inch total. KROC got .5 yesterday which was certainly better than nothing. If we can tack on another .5 today and tomorrow we will be doing alright.
  5. Sorry to hear most of you got shafted. The west side of ROC had some very intense storms for about 40 minutes yesterday around 415. We picked up 1.9" in that amount of time with some minor tree damage and street flooding. Was quite the gullywasher and just what we needed.
  6. Just took a peek at the radar and that storm over Cattaraugus county immediately jumped out at me. Very explosive growth, slightly right moving, hook echo-ish. Very surprised it didn’t have any warning. Looked potentially tornadic to me. The hills obscured the critical region of the velocity data.
  7. The Lake Erie shadow has kept the Niagara frontier over to KROC very dry and boring so far this summer. It seems more powerful and persistent than usual. The drought situation on the West side of Monroe county (also Orleans County) is getting pretty bad. I would do anything for a good 1-2 inch soaker. Oh well, looks like it will be at least another 4-5 days until our next shot at precip, and from the looks of that frontal passage we'll get shadowed again. Loving this heat though, it feels amazing.
  8. Buffaloweather, fire up a new Spring thread for us. This one is getting stale.
  9. This late spring kind of sucks from a cabin fever standpoint but from a natural standpoint its very good for the environment. This is much closer to the normal weather that has occurred for thousands of years. At least we don't have to worry about trees budding out early, grapes, apples, peaches, pears, etc. Longer colder winters also do a better job of keeping insects in check. This kind of sucks but is more normal. Warm weather will be here soon, fear not. And keep working on those final indoor projects from the winter because soon you will not want to stay inside!
  10. Well I'm finally back and on track (no more jetlag) from NZ. I can't believe I missed such a snowy and cold March, of all years to be somewhere else! Anyway, I don't ever remember us holding snowpack like we have the past three weeks. The majority of this fell on March 2nd and I assume the 12th/13th yet look at how much remained on March 25th..even with that potent spring sun Absolutely unreal.
  11. This was pretty much all ocean effect snow from what I saw too. Pretty awesome to see that if winds align right they can get a nearly endless supply of heavy snow there. Very rare though.
  12. Man, Toronto must be in the one of the worst places ever for snow. They can never catch a break. However most (normal) people probably see that as a great perk.
  13. Wind sheltered locations collect a ton more snow in wind driven events. Definitely not a good place to measure unless you want to pad your numbers.
  14. Great to see the Livingston(Genesee) valley finally have a nice event. You guys always struggle to get big numbers. Congrats!
  15. Looks like about 10 inches OTG in ROC but that was just a final measurement without any incremental measurements taken so I could tack on another 2 to account for compaction. Winds and drifts were pretty awesome so tough to find a good place to measure. Took just over two hours to clear the driveway which is a record for me. Incredibly dense, heart attack stuff. Definitely overperformed what I expected. But here I am, at work....boooo
  16. Im off to bed, early shift tomorrow. Post some radars throughout the night if you guys stay up! Good luck everyone.
  17. I would reword that. This could turn from Fun to super fun if we get widespread power outages. Carnage is the best part of these storms!
  18. I was talking about March 2014 being the first blizzard warning since 93 in Rochester.
  19. That was such a nice event! First Blizzard warning in Rochester since the Superstorm.
  20. I really can't think of any purely synoptic storm that ever had thundersnow around here. Aside from the the arctic fronts that scoop up a lake ontario band, its damn near unheard of.
  21. Agreed, house shaking gusts even. The dog doesnt know what the hell is going on. Love Northeast winds, they really crank along the South Shore counties.
  22. I just now see the posts above discussing the lake effect band, sorry about my redundancy.
  23. Yup! And it really appeared to actually be attached to the lake and stayed there for a bit. I can't be certain but I found it odd and it gave me hope that maybe we could eek out some enhancement on the back end.
  24. There was actually a legit band of East to West lake snow hitting the West end of the lake earlier today. i wouldn't have believed it if I didn't see it for myself. Very interesting as delta T's shouldnt have allowed it. I should have grabbed a screen shot.
  25. 4-7 seems reasonable as the NWS only had me at 6-10 with the point and click during most of the lead up to this storm when the track was much further north. The storm is definitely a few ticks further south than progged and deformation/wrap around snow seems to be diving SE into Ohio and PA. The winds are pretty awesome though so I can at least be happy about that. Always a fan of wind events. And poor Hetsko, the dude loves these big events and he starts getting the flu on one of the bigger storms of the season, that sucks!
