  1. I've commented in NNE thread (I think) that I go to the sugarloaf webcam almost everyday. Until this weekend all but the base cam was shut down. It is wall to wall there right now. For Sugarloaf to be honest, I'm not sure if we've had enough 'nice' days to make for a good spring season. i look occasionally at the superstar at killington and it remains loaded with snow.
  2. The Sugarloaf webcams went on today - they have only had the base cam on continuously. Still wall to wall on mountain. The cam at top of Cannon that looks out onto Franconia Ridge showing lots of snow and ice.
  3. I saw that and went to their website - they have very detailed instructions and guidelines for purposes of social distancing. Looks like golf courses are reopening in California.
  4. A sign of the Spring, after a second work day, yard at lake is ready for Memorial Day. Literally, two weeks before I can ever remember the place cleaned up which is probably a function of available time and weather. Bugs were out today , not last weekend. An unscientific survey on RT. 3 Tilton at 130-2PM, only 1 in 25 cars had out of state plates.
  5. 50 minutes of nordic skiing this morning in a playing field adjacent to my house. Classic style but I've been out maybe a half dozen times on my roller skis since my last skinny ski at Tremblant six weeks ago. I was gliding on a lot wet grass at times - we got about 2" of compacted snow.
  6. What a great winter - events early and late.
  7. Sorry, it's Teton Village or nuthin' for me.
  8. Until recently had the opportunity to get to Hancock/Houghton 2-3 times per year. Knowing I would not be back, I drove up to Calumet this Fall - only 25 minutes or so north of Houghton. The UP of Michigan is beautiful and Marquette - about 90 east - is a bit of a hidden gem. Calumet is a once prosperous town that has been decline for easily 80 years. It was amazing to drive down the main drag surrounded by 100+ plus year old, once elegant brick buildings that are all now in some form of disrepair. Winters are amazing up there although I avoided them at all cost because airports close for extended periods in the winter due to weather, et cetera. Mount Bohemia ski area at the top of the peninsula was always on my to-do list!
  9. Yeah, my relatives in Poland did not have power yesterday. The amount of out of state utility trucks on turnpike was crazy.
  10. @tamarack do you have power? My bro-in-law has been in your area with an out-of-state line company. Went up to Meredith this morning and raked leaves for almost 7 hours - never seen so many acorns from two oak we have - when the sun went behind the clouds, temp dropped by 10 degrees. Ragged Mountain was covered in snow this morning. There was snow on Gunstock mountain too.
  11. Place looks perfect.
  12. No good way to drive east west across northern NE. It is both a curse and a blessing.
  13. A friend of mine who lives in Brunswick out on the water seems to live on his generator during the winter months. Over last sixth months, been there three times, the backup generator been running twice.
  14. I love western Maine but it is far especially from metro Boston. See my prior comments about Rangeley as a true 4 season destination and I love Sugarloaf. We have a family summer home in the NH lakes region - we open Memorial Day and close Labor Day. It is a special place with many great family traditions. It is large enough that we share the place, rather than divide the place up by family branches over the course of the season. We share the maintenance which is nice. Anyway, a long winded introduction - the place is 2 hours door to door from our primary residence with moving traffic - I find that after 8 to 10 weekends over the course of the summer, I'm ready for a break. Flip side is I could see moving to NH or ME for the lifestyle but I'd need to find the right town - I'm a 'people person!'
  15. See what happens when the amount of CO2 being pumped into the atmosphere is reduced for just a short time, a Spring of yore! Just back from Maine, heavy snow squalls while I was there and the # of line trucks still coming into the state is impressive.
  16. @dryslotand @Lava Rock can you provide me any observations about the road conditions - I'm assuming they are fine - headed up to Poland in a bit and want to give myself enough cushion. Thanks.
  17. Could I get an update in morning about roads going to Poland off gray - RT. 26. Trying to figure out how much extra time I need to give myself.
  18. Knife Edge is unique from anything in NE - I took my son across when he was 14 - kept grabbing him. He was not happy. Same protective instinct when he summited King's Peak in UT when he was 11 and he kept looking over a several thousand foot sheer drop. I don't remember being intimidated on Kineo but I was with my wife so we were probably well back from the edge of the trail!
  19. I love the northern Presidentials. King Ravine is spectacular. The RMC huts are very cool. Also, far less foot traffic than Ike, Monroe, et cetera. I had to laugh b/c Katahdin is tops, especially when you come into via chimney pond - as a friend of who had hiked all over West said, it's the most western of the east.
  20. Looking forward to discussing the pro/cons of wildcat, BW, Black Mtn, Sunday River ski pass with you. Enjoy hiking Adams/Madison as well as the Carters from the Gorham/Randolph area. Congrats.
  21. I was sharing ski pictures from wildcat on april 22 2007 with my nephew this morning - of course, there will no one to enjoy the bounties this time around - as long as @HIPPYVALLEY can stop himself from promoting it among the flatlanders! ;-)) I need to go to Poland Maine on Friday morning and hoping this is all wrapped up by then. I am going to then drive to NH and spend nite at our camp and thinking I will do a drive around mt. washington given I will have time and daylight.
  22. That was a crazy month for SoVT. The reports from Magic were insane. My son drove up to Mt. Snow to ski after they got the 3' storm - the problem was the front face of mountain wasn't steep enough to ski outside the narrow paths they had groomed.
