  1. Rained a little yesterday and a little today. What’s been kinda surprising to me is how quickly the trails have dried this summer after each rain event. I think fall and winter were somewhat dry which may be part of the reason. I know there have been areas with localized flooding esp closer to dc, but overall it feels like we’ve had just the right amount of rain here. Took a trip to Michaux a couple weeks ago and it was the same story.
  2. I actually thought I was too low. I know the stats don’t completely back this up, but this definitely “felt” like a cooler summer, which jives with the late start to spring. No idea what that means for winter (a code yet to be cracked in the mid-Atlantic).
  3. Was in Columbia at the time (at work talking to my manager…think it was even a performance review lol). So unlikely to get an earthquake here that my first guess was that the building was crumbling. It was pretty legit for about a minute there. I also remember cell service being down bc everyone was trying to figure out what just happened.
  4. Lol. You ain’t kidding. This whole year minus a few localized events has been pretty unremarkable weather wise.
  5. looks like i'll be missing that little cell, but getting a decent show out of it. can see the rain at the ridge tops. overall, radar isn't all that impressive, but it is busy.
  6. just like yesterday, seeing some CG right over the catoctin's. and as I'm typing, saw another extremely healthy bolt.
  7. a little more bark than bite so far, but plenty of rain/breeze. saw some good lightning to the northwest, but might have just missed the core of that. healthy summer storm overall. looks like cells are pulsing to the east now.
  8. pretty legit shelf cloud streaming in from the catoctins. glad i'm not biking the 'shed right now.
  9. just looked outside...yea, it's about to get real here.
  10. getting pretty noisy here. actually, quite a bit of thunder. I might get clipped, but downtown Frederick might need a boat if these cells maintain.
  11. the thunder here is of the building rattling variety.
  12. kind of a weak sauce heat wave. not complaining by any stretch, but at least in frederick, the breeze made it feel like a notch above a typical summer day. got some hikes and some bball in the last couple days. not saying i wasn't toasty in the process lol, but we've had worse here. this was doable. what i do want are some storms to track. we need a little excitement in an otherwise fairly boring weather year so far (aside from localized events).
  13. I would say I picked a good week to have my bike in the shop, but no rain means the trails will probably be in primo shape...meh. (rain is a good thing, though)
  14. yea, the lighting is still going here even after the torrents moved through. I think things are chillin' out though. Definitely a premium grade storm here.
  15. i think there were at least realistically 50mph gusts at peak here, maybe higher. hard to tell from inside, but it this was a patio chair mover. only thing missing was hail.
  16. this one might actually be severe by the book. had some real healthy gusts move through and still going. pouring here still.
  17. direct hit here. downpours and dark. saw some cg, but nothing too crazy yet.
  18. yea, i'm not gonna be dodging this one. starting to hear thunder in the distance. this is gonna be a banger.
  19. they've mostly missed my area as well (got fringed saturday, but did catch the downpours heading towards emmitsburg that day). I'm liking what I see on the radar right now.
  20. looks like that's continuing so far with this system. rainfall totals in the area are meager up towards schaeffer farms/germantown (contemplating biking it today). cabin john, not so much. this is in line with what i drove through coming home last saturday evening. torrential downpours along the beltway through bethesda, and not much towards frederick.
  21. biked little bennett yesterday which is notorious for staying muddy in some of the low lying spots. it was damp, but not too bad. I don't think this area needs several inches of rain. maybe a good soak, but i'm good on 2-4" of rain. latest nam looks like a nothing burger for northern md, but it's also been dancing back and forth each run it seems. one thing I do know is that it's humid out...like downpour humid. side note...was in va beach last weekend and the water was swimmable. thought it wouldn't be given what "feels" like a cooler summer so far. also interesting were the salps that i thought were grains of sand, but instead were swarms of jelly-like things. kinda gross, but they don't sting. in fact, they're not even jellyfish apparently. learned something new that day.
  22. the core is now moving ssw of me, but those in line are going to enjoy these.
