  1. I'm actually in Toronto (despite my screen name!). Have friends in Ottawa still, though. Things are tense there. Things are especially tense at the Ambassador Bridge between Detroit and Windsor. It wouldn't surprise me if some sort of action is taken within the next day or so to clear those protesters. Pressure being put on government by the US government now as supply chains have ground to a halt. Really hoping there isn't any violence or bloodshed. Crazy times we have been living through these past two years.
  2. Have you guys heard of the ongoing trucker convoy protests here in Ontario? Hearing rumours the Peace Bridge might be blocked this weekend, from both sides. Ontario has declared a state of emergency.
  3. At least the next winter Olympics is in northern Italy, I believe.
  4. I'm so sorry to hear that you went through that. May your friend rest in peace.
  5. I've noticed that, for the past five years or so, we've been getting cold springs, with snow well into April, but very warm early Falls.
  6. I just hope we don't have a torch in the February 20-28th timeframe, only for cold to return in March. I'd rather have a slow, gradual warm-up rather than a sudden jump into the 60s.
  7. 4 weeks of winter is nothing. lol If you look at some of (but not all) of the winters between approximately 1955 and 1985, winter would start early November and last through until early April. On a sidenote, it's interesting how some of the warmest winters on record are still from 90 years ago. For example, downtown Toronto's warmest Januarys are 1) 1932 and 2) 1931, with records going back to 1840. Even January 1913 was warmer than most of the Januarys of the past 30 years...and this followed one of the coldest Januarys on record (1912).
  8. Odd to see January 1858 standing out as being so warm. I imagine that must have been a real anomaly back then, although in a book I have, called Early American Winters, by David Ludlum, the late 1820s apparently saw a string of mild winters.
  9. I didn't actually lose much of my snowpack. I'd say I have about a foot of snow on the ground. Snowbanks are so high that it's hard to see when backing out of the driveway.
  10. Just got back from a walk. Snowing steadily, but flake size is small. I'm at the border between Toronto and Markham. Glad we are at least getting something out of this second wave. Congrats to the western and central New York posters!
  11. Yes, latest guidance has wave 2 coming slightly further north, so maybe a couple more inches for us this evening.
  12. Yes, at least it will freshen up the snowpack in preparation for the next polar blast. Judging by the medium range, the snow won't be going anywhere anytime soon.
  13. But, yes, the mild air held on longer than expected. Rain to snow scenarios almost never work out for Toronto.
  14. It's snowing steadily here now. Not heavy snow and white-outs, but steady nonetheless. There's still a chance we make 4", I think, if it snows through the night.
  15. My temperature is now below freezing, around 30 or 31 F. Light snow.
  16. This is an unusual winter for Syracuse. You guys average more snow than Buffalo, I believe, and certainly way more than Toronto.
  17. It's a shame they closed all the Friendly's restaurants in western New York. Used to love their sandwich melts and the "fribbles".
  18. I've been to the one near Depew, not far from the Buffalo airport, and the one in Rochester. I used to like the prime roast beef. Also, I believe Thursdays were turkey dinner day.
  19. The medium range trends would seem to indicate that February will not end up above normal in Michigan/Ontario/New York.
  20. Always liked the lemonade they served at Cracker Barrel. Haven't been since December 2019, before the pandemic.
  21. Has been wet snow in my area since about 4:15
  22. Bust for Toronto. I'd be surprised if we even see 4", to be honest. Maybe 2"?
  23. Yup, huge bust for Toronto. I'd be surprised if we get to 4", to be honest. Maybe 2"?
