  1. Even down here in Indy forecasters are talking about possibly record cold for early next week. Brr!
  2. Nice spread the wealth Halloween snow for many here in the subforum even if it was just seeing snowflakes in the air for a time for us down in central parts of IN.
  3. Getting a definite snow shower here at Fortville now just ne of Indpls. Had some pingers on the hood driving home from Greenfield a little earlier.
  4. My goodness, I just came back from a ten day trip to New Orleans and the MS Gulf coast to find a serious winter thread for the Midwest after basking in what will probably be my last 70 and 80 degree temps of the year. On to winter!
  5. Just watched WWL TV out of New Orleans. They are currently expecting the heaviest wx to be along the coast east of them but are still quite concerned about winds that could topple the two cranes at the collapsed Hard Rock Hotel. Even if the tropical system misses there will be a front coming through early this next week.
  6. Ahh...refreshing fall temps have finally arrived with some color appearing on trees down this way in central IN. Beautiful day for the first weekend of the Parke county covered bridge festival. But I must admit I have been spoiled by the warmer temps hanging on for so long.....it was quite a shock to the system Friday evening when that cold front finally arrived. KIND extended forecast says above normal temps and precip shall return however. We shall see.
  7. Tornado watch now issued for much of sw and central IA.
  8. Tornado warnings out now in se Nebraska. Watch may be forthcoming this Tuesday afternoon and evening Oct. 1.
  9. Ugh....91/65 here.....that se ridge is surely pumping up the heat. Breaks record set in 1897 of 89 for Oct. 1.
  10. Best parameters are just a smidge sw of him although I presume they will move into his territory as the day progresses. 2500 MLCAPE, 8,5 mid level lapse rates, low LCL's, 3km helicity up to 350. Heck, I'm even wondering if there could be some action down my way later tonight or just north of me across IL and IN. 87/64 here now.
  11. I've had a met tell me that "radar confirmed" meant that a tornado was actually there whereas "radar indicated" meant only rotation was observed. It does get confusing.
  12. Tor warning now for Lake County Illinois and confirmed tornado in Michigan.
  13. I'm ashamed of NOAA for throwing their NWS colleagues under the bus. President Trump exhibits a severe narcissistic personality disorder with an ego that refuses to let him admit he is human and can make a mistake. This disorder can explain all of his tweets, discounts of others, and love of adjectives like great, wonderful, best, superb, etc. "I alone can fix it." The behavior is putting our country at risk. I'm also ashamed of many of my professional psychological and mental health colleagues for refusing to highlight this disorder for what it is. They don't do so because of what is known as the "Goldwater rule," which essentially affirms that unless you have personally examined a client you cannot make a formal diagnosis. Trump's actions and tweets are a matter of public record. And now for an agency like NOAA to put politics ahead of science is infuriating.
  14. Tom Skilling of WGN news had video tonight of a couple cars being flipped either by a downburst or that tornado.
  15. Scattered storms starting to form this evening on a ne/sw axis. Been watching Dorian so much I needed to look homeward.
  16. Perhaps....but those of us who are Midwesterners hold scientist/storm chaser Tim Samaras, killed in the May 2013 El Reno OK tornado in high esteem. His passion must have been a little crazy too.
  17. Those of us who have been around here awhile know of many of Josh's previous hurricane adventures. I have always appreciated his courage and reporting. I was really worried for him this time, Patricia notwithstanding. Good news!
  18. I am actually concerned regarding when watches and warnings will be posted, although I understand the meteorological hesitancy. My concern is that Florida is a long state. Time will be needed for evacuations northward and also preps for those who do not have transportation to evacuate.
  19. Yes. the heavier part of the storm was to the south of me with southern Hancock being affected. I had some good winds with the gust front several minutes prior to the rain here IMBY but lucked out on the svr. Lots of tree and power line damage reports coming in from Indy metro west to the state line though. Had to phone IND NWS prior to the storm arrival though because NWS warning polygons were not appearing on their radar site. Got it corrected.
  20. SOURCE...ASOS OBSERVATION. AT 243 PM, A 73 MPH THUNDERSTORM WIND GUST WAS REPORTED AT THE INDIANAPOLIS INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT.
  21. Yeah, we'll have to see if it maintains or increases its momentum as it enters IN. Pretty juicy here at 84/74. Also concerned about the line entering LaCrosse CWA now for Chi- town and NW IN later.
  22. The storm diminished in intensity as it hit Indy metro with highest winds off the ground and not reaching the surface. State fair goers were advised to shelter in place inside buildings until the storm passed. Beautiful fiery red sunset here now.
  23. Indpls metro now under warning for 80 mph winds and quarter hail Pitch black to my west. Bow echo headed right for the north part of city. Last day of state fair.
  24. Must be warm frontal action in that tornado watch area in southern MN. Don't know if it will eventually turn se. Looks like wind trajectory is basically east so the storms should stay over southern WI.
