At least we won't miss south...? Most interesting weather lately were some lightening strikes I was driving home from Reading on Thursday. Mountains up north are finally getting snow. Vermont supposedly has been a dream this week.

Euro is an inland barn crusher further south than 12z.

I'll take two Barn-crushers to-go with a side of sleet! My guess is that this is going to spread out, and be warmer with less intense precipation than currently modeled on the GFS. Hard to get something going with the PV flowing so vigorously.

Looks like we went from summer to winter. LOL

    Saturday's final high was 69, Sunday's H/L was 59/38 and yesterday's H/L was 45/32.

This morning's low was 31, which is the coldest here since the end of March.

It's currently clouding over, and partly sunny, and 42 wit dp 30.

6z EC shows the expected warm/rain scenario for the southern part of the CONUS.

If this was peak climatology we'd have the wiggum rule on our side.

The NWS has posted a freeze warning for Western Chester County and a Frost Advisory for Easter Chester County for overnight tonight into Wednesday morning. If we do see freezing temps tomorrow morning that would end the growing season at 182 days. Our last freezing temperature was on April 20th. The growing season averages 172 days in the lower elevations of the county below 430 feet and 186 days in the higher elevations. The average date of first fall freeze is October 14th in lower spots and October 24th in the relatively higher locales. The shortest growing season in County history was the 119 days back in 1956. The longest season was 233 days back in 2005.
The record high for today is 89 degrees set in 1908. The record low is 22 degrees from 1974. The daily rainfall record is 1.98" from 1911.

The higher elvation is longer than the lower??

  5. Praying for a dry week this week. My dad and I tore our roof off... we found a bunch of rot in the deck that had to be patched. We weren't able to get it all finished and tar papered before we ran out of daylight yesterday. Hopefully we can get the patching done tonight and get the tar paper on tomorrow.

DT says "winter come hinter" and looks to be highly favorable pattern developing especially considering the deep trough and strong jets developing through the country. Anybody following JB and LC these days?

    That's what I thought..

Ive seen annual blue grass sold before for emgerency repairs-- It has a tendency to leave bare spots the following year. Annual ryegrass is a superior choice for its durability and drought resistance but does not germinate as readily or as hardily as annual bluegrass. Rye has a better appearance too. Some golf course such as Chambers Bay in WA use annual blue grass in their greens.

So like I tilled up sections of lawn and planted fescue and those sections are totally dormant thanks to the lack of rain and high temps. Thing is though I was selling my house and everything was green when it went under contract. Hard to think someone would care so much but hopefully buyers don't lose their shit when they come thru for walk thru. It'll bounce back in fall and look like sex all over again but looks all kinds of stupid right now. The reverse happens in winter with the zoysia looking like ass.

You can always try overseeding with annual blue grass (fastest to germinate and won't come back next year) and watering with a sprinkler. It will perk back up in no time

Only thing is - those more northern latitude areas also get longer hours of daylight (e.g., International Falls, MN has just over 16 hours of daylight around the solstice) where around this neck of the woods, we are just barely hitting 15 hours max.  So although they may be closer to the Canadian air masses, they have extended heating whenever a ridge builds over that part of the country.  Otherwise without an amplified ridge and a more zonal flow, I expect they would definitely be cooler up there - at least if they aren't in a drought state (where that tends to amplify and radiate the heat much more).

Well had to get out there and give my plants some top-off water and the humidity is definitely starting to build although it wasn't too bad when in some shade.  It's currently 85 and mostly sunny (after a low of 68), with some cirrus and a few cumulus clouds starting to pop up, and with dp 69.

Well the extra daylight makes for enormous vegatables which i think makes up for it!

  10. This summer is a bit how I imagine summers are out in Idaho, Montana,Minnesota, the Dakota's....etc-- maybe just a bit cooler on the hottest days.

Amazing low-humidity day yesterday with a final high of 89 and not a cloud in the sky.  Had a great bbq at one of my sister's houses yesterday and the lightning bugs were competing with the early fireworks.

After a low of 65 this morning, made it up to 87 today and it's currently 84 and mostly sunny with lots of cirrus and a low dp of 53.

Man what a beautiful day today. If the rest of summer could be like this, I'd be ok with that.

I've been out of town for a few days, and my wife hurt her back right before I left so she couldn't mow--it's been 10 days since we mowed last. Two hours of bushwhacking later, and I barely had to wipe the sweat from my brow. 25% humidity FTW.

Indeed, My sister had her tent wedding in our back yard in Pottstown! What a wonderful time!

39F...wind has been cranking a bit this afternoon. Actually the past two weeks the wind has been the most consistent feature.

A strong, consistent, early spring wind from the east normally casues an a bummer crop for maple syrup farmers. Especially, following prolonged and consistent cold.

There are still guardrails here and there with giant dents in them from all the trees that fell during that storm. That was wild.

That was a bad storm, its the only ice storm I remember really packing the heat around here. There was one when I was up in Vermont but it was nothing for them to handle.
