It’s really snowing kind of hard in Downtown DC. Wasn’t expecting this, even if it doesn’t last long.

Seems to be finally coming to an end Downtown and not much on radar aimed at city anymore. I think this may be the second biggest snowfall of the year for inner city locations, although I don't think I was here for the November snow.

Really confused what good closing schools early on a day like today accomplishes, with this forecast. If anything, won’t schools be releasing students into worse conditions than they would at regular closing time, considering snow supposed to end by later afternoon at latest?

After a brief lull to pixie dust, moderate snow from the southern band back-building north into city. Does seem like more dry air may be moving in, though, so this could be last gasp

I know. I was just thinking this. Isn't most of Washington DC technically south of I-66 if the highway is extrapolated eastward? And if you look at radar, even the dry slot that had been over Prince William is filling in, while that little band over Arlington and DCA seems to have become stationary.

Because A) Roads are frozen after 48 hours of the coldest air of the season. B ) I dont think they had enough salt crews out because they didn't expect this much snow.

Who knows how much will make it over the mountains, but radar shows it's still snowing all the way back to Knoxville, Kentucky. And several counties in the nothern tier of central West Virginia have just been upgraded to WSW from advisories.

Good for DC. Radar shows the bands of more moderate snow blossiming in Montgomery Co. and then pushing and expanding as they move south across the city into Northern Virginia. I really thought this would be a Frederick-Baltimore northern event.

Checking local news out there, seems this event has over-performed in Pittsburgh area too. Maybe a good sign this continues here for a few more hours??

Flake size has really improved downtown in last 5 minutes. Even salted streets starting to whiten around the edges.

Funny how OPM arguably needed a delay today, instead of the 3 hour delay Wednesday. Streets still seem fine Downtown, but there is a lot of traffic cause doesn't like anyone thought it would snow.

I would say we're close to already exceededing "a dusting" in Downtown D.C. Every thing white, except main streets that I assume have been salted.

OPM 3 hour Delay tomorrow. (Seems a bit unnecessary but...)

I think part of the issue was timing. Seems the entire event came and went sooner than had been forecast. I didn’t even think it was supposed to change over in DC until 5 pm., allowing what fell to occur after sunset. Instead, entire event is over at sunset.

Heavy final band moving through now. No accumulation Downtown dc. Imagine DCA will end up with nothing for this event

Snow Starting to stick on mulch in downtown DC. Streets and sidewalks and car tops still just wet.

After stopping for an hour, Light snow has returned to the District for a final dusting

National Airport has 9.8 as of an hour ago, per Capital Weather Gang.

The intensity of this evening snow in DC clearly caught a lot of people off guard, rightly or wrongly. Just walked 20 blocks —- whereas city snow plows were lined up on every few blocks before the first flake fell yesterday, didn’t see one this evening. And major hotels and business that usually have an army of workers at the ready to clear each 1/2 inch off sidewalks, had completely snow-packed sidewalks.

Looking at radar, It’s starting to look like the afternoon DC snow party is about to come to end.
