  1. A smidge less of cirrus this evening but still enough to paint the sky some pretty colors. Local sunset... Getting all primed for the colors... A whole bunch of orange/red...
  2. Some cirrus made for a nice sunset this evening. Local sunset... Post sunset color getting started... The extent and expanse of the orange... The reds...
  3. With a system of garden variety storms moving through north to south late afternoon/early evening, I thought there was a good chance of some good color to the sunset. When I got to the pond there was close to a halo. More like two disconnected arcs but it still looked cool... Post sunset color begins... Red moving into the area... The reds exiting the area...
  4. Not much in the way of clouds. But enough to make an effort. I got to set up looking due south this evening. Fortunately the fishermen took the night off and I was able to use the north side of the pond... What little of the red that I had this evening... Just to show you why I was not looking west like I normally an doing...
  5. Nope, and I was still out taking sunset pics around 9:40EDT. Must have been too far west for me.
  6. Just enough moisture in the atmosphere to make the sunset interesting. Pre-sunset... The post sunset color starts... Here comes the red from the east... Red in the western sky... Stick an arrow in it. The sunset is over...
  7. ^ Shows just how good an insulator the ground is.
  8. While waiting on the fireworks I kept an eye on the sky last night. Looking east... Looking west... This was way past sunset and the clouds had to be illuminated with reflected light. Backscatter light looks real cool but lasts only a moment.
  9. With the afternoon convection moving from the south east towards the north west and falling apart overhead, I thought this evening might be colorful with the west being open of clouds. What I started with pre-sunset... Here comes the post sunset color. Nature's fireworks are the best. The yellow... The orange... And the reds...
  10. Back at the pond this evening. Local sunset... Beginning of post sunset color... End of post sunset color...
  11. Did not go out to the pond this evening. Figured the convection to my west would put a damper on any sunset color. Guessed right. But I did stop mowing the grass to take this from the front yard...
  12. These are from last night. There was a thin tenuous layer of cirrus way up in the atmosphere. Stayed white while the lower atmosphere went orange with the sunset. Looked real striking. Hope I could reproduce properly. Local sunset... Here is post sunset at 16mm with the top and bottom cropped rather severely...
  13. You really need to learn to relax a little. It is sort of comical. I bet some intern was giggling in his or her franchise coffee while making that graphic.
  14. Only two images tonight. I should have just picked one but I decided to let you see how much the light can change in just seven minutes and thirteen seconds. Local sunset... Post sunset...
  15. Kind of a plain vanilla sunset this evening. When I got there... When the Sun was disappearing for the day... About the best the post sunset color was going to get...
  16. Nah, Hoosier would just bet on sleet, while he was at LAF.
  17. Looking east when I got to the pond was very photogenic this evening... I went out this evening hoping for a halo or sundogs with the blow off tops from the stuff in Illinois. A faint halo was the best I could do. By hitting the contrast and saturation hard I was able to make it stand out a little bit... As the low level moisture started working back into the area...
  18. Tonight at the pond. The yellow... The orange... And the red...
  19. Bonus image from last night. Some fireworks with the last, last dregs of color in the sky.
  20. Another fun night at the pond. When I got there, vertically... When I got there, horizontally... Local sunset... Best post sunset dynamics... The new Billboard graphics work well with the post sunset colors...
  21. I went to the pond but never went down to the water. The view to the west was sub-par. At least some of the other directions tried to be interesting. Looking east-north-east. Textured ceiling above the firehouse... Looking south-west... Looking south. Just a slight smidge of red...
  22. You would think that with an upper low directly overhead that there should not be much of a sunset. Glad I made the trip out there though. It was worth it. Looking east when I got there... Back to the west, with the 100mm. I like all the layers of clouds... Probably the best dynamics of the evening... The red flash was a little over the top and kind of out there toward the horizon. So it took quite a bit of cropping but I still like it...
  23. Was back at the pond this evening. When I got there... Gorgeous night... It really was something to see this evening... Ending the night with a rocket engine blast off...
  24. I reined myself in this evening and did not go out to the pond this evening. Does not mean I did not take cloud pics though. I still took some from my front yard. Only color, light straw yellow, was way in the distance. With the 100mm... A larger hole opened up just before the last of the light faded. With the 16-35mm...
  25. After the greatness of last night, this is only going to disappoint. But the good news is that fishermen forced me to a new spot at the pond. The new perspective was refreshing. Still like the old spot better though. White clouds... Orange clouds...
