  1. I really hate this for us. The last ice storm I was alive for was the ‘98 one, and what I don’t get is, how can the power realistically be out for weeks when not only are there warmer days coming up, but a series of plain rain events? Wouldn’t that melt the ice fairly quickly and make power restoration quicker?
  2. It’s beautiful out this morning! And the roads look mainly slushy, so I should be okay as long as I go slow. What’s the ice storm situation looking like now? Anyone have any updates on that?
  3. Driving home down Huguenot/river rd. back from Bon Air wasn’t too bad going only 20-25 mph with my hazards on. The snow was really coming down around 9 pm! I’m hoping I’ll be able to safely go in tomorrow morning. Thinking of taking Patterson > Parham > Chippenham > Huguenot.
  4. Noticed in the main thread that they’re talking about the Saturday system falling apart on the NAM? Could that mean less ice for us if it verifies?
  5. That’s good. I am worried about having to call out a couple days this weekend because of the ice on Saturday-Sunday. I work at the Trader Joe’s in Bon Air and since it hasn’t been that long, don’t have enough PTO yet to cover more than a day. I’m hoping beyond hope that it’ll somehow trend less icy at the last minute.
  6. What is the situation looking like currently with regards to ice? I’ve not experienced an ice storm in my adult life, and I take Cary St. Road/River Road/Huguenot to and from work in Bon Air. I’m very worried about having to miss a few days from work because I’m scared to drive in icy conditions. I wrecked my old car two years ago in that monster December snowstorm and can’t afford another one. If it changes to rain from freezing rain like some forecasts are saying, or if precipitation is light, I wonder if it would be not as bad, or melt quickly...
  7. Noticed that. Gotta say, with how this winter has gone, not really surprised that Richmond may entirely miss out while places to our South get snow. I haven’t lived here but 5 years, but in those 5 years, this has been the most lackluster, most disappointing winter so far. Time to cut our losses IMO.
  8. How much did RIC metro end up with? I was home in Southampton County visiting for the weekend, and didn’t expect this much here.
  9. And that’s what? Like halfway to average, correct? Granted, averages are made up of extremes.
  10. I wonder if Richmond will see any dendrites? It’s still snowing—just small flakes.
  11. DT saying that 4-7” is now a possibility in RVA, since the precip shield set up further west than progged.
  12. Western edge seems to have pulled east a good bit looking at the radar. It’s snowing pretty good in Richmond, though. Hopefully it’ll continue.
  13. We have liftoff! Steady light snow, Monroe Ward.
  14. Off and on fine flurries in RVA. But someone posted radar in the obs thread that seems to show the western edge of the precip racing back east. Seems concerning for those that are hoping for something here.
  15. Still nothing in Richmond, but we were just upgraded to a WSW.
  16. This seems like a nice small event for Richmond, as the small nudges west have kept us from being completely shut out. At the moment, the radar has filled in, but it’s all virga.
  17. Most of the model guidance was near unanimous that Richmond would be under the heavier amounts even as it was snowing yesterday. Personally, I’d call that a bust at this point. I understand why it happened. Dry air, too warm, no phase. But still.
  18. So, when do we call this a bust on the low end for Richmond?
  19. Don’t know if the rest of y’all are seeing sleet, but it looks like about 50% sleet from my window right now. I’m right next to a street light. Any idea when that’ll pass? If at all? I’m in Monroe Ward, right in the city.
