  1. I've been listening to this met's analysis for a little bit. He has some interesting takes on things.
  2. I hope that northern most dark purple death blow is 100% accurate. I'll take it.
  3. I had to go to Johnson City for a doc appointment and they said half the patients didn't show up today because of "the storm" hahaah. It flurried the whole way there and back. It was a mess getting up the mountain from Banner Elk when I got back around 5.
  4. It's down to 9 degrees already here at the Beech and blowing pretty good already. Wind chills are gonna be a bit chilly. I'm ready for Fri-Sat!
  5. Let me know if you're ever up this way. I'd love to meet you and others on here.
  6. Met, where is this? Its amazing and beautiful. I'd love to join on a hike sometime if you're near Avery/Watauga area!
  7. I hope the roads clear up tomorrow by mid morning. I've got to go to Johnson City and 194 can get pretty iffy from Banner Elk over to Newland.
  8. I moved here from the NC coast and had a generator there. I bought a condo up here, so I didn't think I'd have the space or ability to have one if needed. I do have a kerosene heater, which I got after the storm for these situations, so I might fire it up.
  9. Geez. Power is flashing on and off now. Down to 13 degrees. Wouldn't be too fun to be in the dark very long with these temps.
  10. I can't believe how fast the temps dropped here at Beech today. Went from around 45 or so to the 20s in no time. The wind is howling up here. Stay safe everyone!
  11. Are you down the mountain some near the ski resort entrance? I'm up at the top behind Brick Oven
  12. It's beautiful up here on Beech. Gusty wins and who knows how much snow. Everything is white and coming down nicely.
  13. If he is is getting wet at 6 ft surge, then he needs to get the hell out of the way.
  14. Yes, Ive seen others post that records have been broken in some areas, but not sure where. My friend told me Roan Mountain is being evacuated
  15. It's pretty hairy over here too. I don't have a way to take any wind speed readings, but my gut says over 80 at least.
  16. That dude has some sort of hormonal regulation problems combined with massive caffeine intake and tachycardia during his live streams.
  17. I think they've been chasing crack instead of hurricanes
  18. Oh I know. I just like to go down with a positive attitude.....
  19. Thanks for the reassurance from you and Jburns and met. I've ridden out many hurricanes, but this is my first here so please pardon my nervousness lol. I don't mean to sound like a baby, although I'm probably being one lol
  20. Thanks for the info! My fear, as Boone pointed out below, is that it's too late and now it's dark trying to come down the mountains. I would have not come home today but I HAD to get here to take care of some things and now I feel like I'm stuck but want to play it safe at my brother's house.
  21. Serious question. Should I get out of Beech Mountain and go to Statesville with my brother? I'm at the very top of the mountain, so slides and flood are unlikely direct on top of me, but down hill might be different. I'm on the 3rd floor of a condo (top floor) directly on top of the mountain, so I don't know how safe or unsafe I am since I have never ridden a hurricane out in the mountains. If I need to leave, I need to now, but I don't know what to do here. We are in unprecedented territory Edit to add that I am mainly afraid of the winds and structural issues with the roof, etc.....
  22. I have a feeling I'm not going to bed tonight. It was raining fairly heavily from around Wilksboro to Boone on my drive home. Oddly enough, once I got up to Beech, the rain essentially stopped. It's super foggy though. I seriously pray everyone will remain safe and well in the next day or two. When in doubt, air on the side of caution and don't take any unnecessary risks. I hope everyone is either already out of the way of the flooding or will get away ASAP.
  23. My friend in Johnson City said she was seeing hail a little earlier.
