I'm obviously no met, so pardon the uneducated question, but when you have warmer air aloft in situations like this coming weekend, doesn't that mean places like us at 3000-5000 feet elevation have MORE chance to get IP/ZR or pure rain since we are already in a "higher" part of the atmosphere vs say somewhere east of us at <500 ft elevation? It would seem that would put us in a more precarious situation than those East of us in cases like this. Am I thinking about this right? Thanks for the help trying to understand.

What's the thought about Friday afternoon/evening up around where I am in Beech? I'm supposed to fly home to Bristol (and drive home to Beech) Sat, but it's almost certain that wouldnt happen. So, I'm likely changing to try to come home Friday. I don't want to attempt that if there's also a chance of issues in CLT, TRI or driving home. I'm torn. And if I wait till after Sat, only the good lord knows when I'd get back.

Starting to get a tad concerned about the icing. Even if we don't get it, it appears some areas could get hit hard. Guess we will see. I'm supposed to fly home to TRI via CLT on Saturday. Might try to get on a Friday flight. Sat looks like it would be a less than ideal day to fly.

This was taken last night around 1030. The wind is whipping so bad, it's hard to say how much has fallen in the last 24 hours. Several inches for sure. Temp hasnt gotten over 7 degrees today. It was 5 when I got up this morning.

I'm worried about tonight and into tomorrow for several reasons. 1. I dont want to miss it and 2. I want to make it home without venturing into a ditch. I'm one of the smart guys who drives a 4 door FWD car all year living at 5500 ft lol.

Driving home from Statesville to Beech tomorrow afternoon. Could be an interesting drive coming into Boone and onward to Banner Elk. We will see.

I like it. Honestly, I'd rather have several 1-3" days vs one or two 12- 18" day. There is a point where it turns from "this is awesome" to "I'll not leave the house in several days".

Indeed. I agree. It is nice to have some things to track besides whether we will crack 50 or not though lol. We are lucky enough to have NWF opportunities in addition to the larger systems that come through vs those further east. I lived on the beach before moving up here and I remember getting excited just because it might get below freezing for a night or two. It was miserable.

I'm down to 5 degrees with a wind....I don't know what it is, but it's dang strong. It was blowing me around waking around on the iced parking lot.

Temp has fallen to 18. Dropped a degree in 30 mins according to my station. And it's a very blustery wind up here. Geez.

I just saw my Mountain point forecast for tomorrow at 7pm. 1 degree and 35 mph winds with gusts to 45. Geez. Wind chill -25. That's gonna bite.
