  1. So for BWI: Record lowest max and record low tied yesterday (18 and 6) Record lowest max and record low tied today (18 and 5) Seems likely that we will break a few more later this week. This is quickly turning into a historic February.
  2. I've got about an inch. Still a steady, moderate, powdery snow. 17F What's funny is it took over two hours to just get past the total for the 15 minute snow dump on Saturday night lol
  3. Moderate snow now. This is one of the few storms where it immediately started sticking to everything (including roads).
  4. Welcome aboard, glad to see more people joining the thread. Looking forward to everyone's obs! I'm excited!
  5. Quick run-down of all the forecasts I've seen for southern MD: TWC = 8-12 Accuweather = 6-12 DT (1st call) = 10-12 NWS map (currently) = 6-8 Ellinwood = 8-12 CWG = hasn't put out an official forecast yet, but said we could get 5-10 down here I could wind up with more snow than any storm last year... actually this could be the most snow I've seen in one storm since snowmageddon if some of these forecasts verify.
  6. Glad to see you back on here! Latest LWX map has central/southern Calvert and all of St. Mary's in the bullseye: 8-10! http://www.weather.gov/images/lwx/winter/StormTotalSnowRange.png
  7. For BWI, in addition to tying the record low today, its seems like breaking the record lowest max today and record low tomorrow are given. Also... top 10 coldest February watch for BWI?
  8. Didn't get much sleep at all, the winds were too loud. My wind gauge was saying 50mph gusts, and KNHK had a peak gust of 49mph, so that sounds about right. Went outside to check my roof and fence (all ok, fortunately) but one neighbor has damage to their fence I see. Somehow most of the snow melted (or maybe it just blew away). Its unbearable outside. Between the two bursts of snow yesterday, the cold and winds, and then if we get a MECS here on Tuesday, this would be a pretty epic period of winter.
  9. My temp/dewpoint went from 43/24 to 40/31... I'm holding out hope but I have that feeling somehow were getting shafted again. Depressing reading all these "whiteout!!!!" posts in the main thread while I'm getting virga. Edit: Scratch that, snowing hard now lol
  10. Charles, Calvert and St. Mary's have high wind warnings and wind chill advisories, but I'm surprised winter weather advisories haven't been posted yet, especially since the actual forecasts are calling for 1-1.5 inches later today and tonight. I don't think I've ever had all three advisories at once.
  11. I remember that storm. The models initially showed suppression and a whiff but trended north at the last minute Monday and gave us a region-wide 12-18+ event.
  12. I never knew that the February '96 storms had you guys in the bullseye. Both of those were just moderate events in the BWI area. This is from LWX's historic storms page: February 2-3 and February 16, 1996, storms: The Delmarva received 4 snowstorms in about 5 weeks from January 7 through February 16. The storm on February 2-3, dropped up to two feet of snow over Dorchester County. The entire Lower Eastern Shore was covered by another 1 to 2 feet of snow. On February 16, another storm struck dropping 5 to 8 inches over the Lower Eastern Shore and 8 to 12 inches on the Upper Eastern Shore. These storms combined to produce the snowiest season this century on the Delmarva! The Lower Shore (Wicomico, Worcester, and Somerset Counties) saw 28 to 35 inches of snow in those five weeks. Dorchester, Talbot, and Caroline Counties saw 45 to 59 inches of snow.
  13. I like when the "S" word ("suppression", not "snow") is tossed around in the main thread. That usually has the north/west people going while we're Technically we're also getting screwed right now too, but I like where we sit as of now.
  14. I had a burst of heavy wet snow with big flakes. Too warm to accumulate on anything, but I took my son out in it and he liked running around. It looks like its ending now.
  15. I bet we won't even be able to get a pity cartopper like everyone is today lol
  16. This has to be the sh*tiest 5 day forecast ever. All my emerging spring bulbs are going to die too: Tonight Partly cloudy, with a low around 26. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph after midnight. Thursday A chance of snow showers before 1pm, then a chance of rain and snow showers between 1pm and 4pm, then a chance of snow showers after 4pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 39. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming northwest 12 to 17 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Thursday Night Mostly clear, with a low around 15. Blustery, with a northwest wind 21 to 23 mph, with gusts as high as 34 mph. Friday Sunny, with a high near 27. Wind chill values as low as -1. Blustery, with a northwest wind 13 to 22 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. Friday Night Partly cloudy, with a low around 19. Northwest wind 5 to 9 mph becoming calm. Saturday Partly sunny, with a high near 40. Saturday Night Mostly cloudy, with a low around 10. Blustery. Sunday Mostly sunny, with a high near 19. Blustery. Sunday Night Mostly clear, with a low around 6. Blustery. Washington's Birthday Sunny, with a high near 25. Monday Night Mostly cloudy, with a low around 18.
  17. I'm not sure- the only ones I know how to get are the three main airports in the LWX area (DCA, IAD, BWI). You're under Mount Holly so idk what their official climo reporting stations are. Edit: Wait- you're under Wakefield, not Mount Holly, right? They have Salisbury there but idk if that's an official climo station: http://www.weather.gov/climate/index.php?wfo=akq
  18. Here's an article from 2013 that explains it: http://articles.baltimoresun.com/2013-05-25/news/bs-md-third-bay-crossing-20130508_1_bay-bridge-new-span-mdta Admittedly the Calvert to Talbot idea is kind of ridiculous, and adding new lanes to the existing bay bridge is an exercise in futility (I watched them do that with 695 forever), but I like the Calvert-Dorchester idea. Having just one bay bridge through Annapolis is becoming impractical, especially with so many moving to southern MD now (which is only going to increase now that Dominion Cove is being built). Its also lost tourist revenue for OC and Delaware- it would take me just as long to get to OC as Virginia Beach even though the latter is much farther away "as the bird flies". I imagine you'd end up with a lot of commuters who would live on the eastern shore and work at Calvert Cliffs, etc. The bigger issue I think would be the impact on route 2-4, which already needs more lanes in some spots. There's no way the main bay will freeze over. The last time that happened was in the 1976-77 winter, and that had the coldest Sept.-Dec. period ever followed by the coldest month ever for the region in January 1977. There may possibly be some surface ice in some spots (that happens more often), but it just hasn't been cold enough for a long enough period.
  19. They need to make another bay bridge from Calvert to Dorchester. I read the state has been "studying" the possibility of it again. I'm not too far from many of you "as the bird flies" but it would probably take me like 4 hours to get there lol
  20. Glad I didn't have to drive to work today, its icy here. I've changed the thread title to include the lower eastern shore too now.
  21. This is how my weenie mind views the long range: were in record territory for consecutive months without an El Nino. The longer we go without an official one, the stronger the snap back is gonna be... mean reversion and all that. We'll get a super west-based Nino just in time for the 2016-17 winter... and you all know the new 7-year HECS cycle.
  22. The February one was the most impressive/destructive for the amount of ice, particularly for southern MD and the eastern shore. MD was declared a disaster area. January 17-18 was the one followed by the extreme cold (1/19/94 may be the coldest average day in January for BWI I think). That was one of the "honorable mentions" in my first post that I almost put on here. If I remember this right, it was so cold the salt wouldn't work and I had off from school for a week.
