  1. Weren’t we talking just 2 weeks ago how there were no storms for the foreseeable future and we were wasting this cold air. Then about a week and a half ago this storm popped up on the models and stayed there. So don’t throw in the towel yet, I’ve seen storms pop up almost out of nowhere and we’re only halfway through winter. Syracuse doesn’t have the highest average snowfall for cities over 100,000 for nothing. Eventually we’ll revert to the mean.
  2. I don’t think your measurements are that far off. I measured 4.2 inches of snow for all of yesterday. Adding that to the 1.5 inches of snow/sleet measured yesterday morning puts my location just under 6 inches for the storm. I’m still melting the snow in my tube so I don’t have the liquid equivalent yet. What hurt me yesterday was the snow that fell late morning ahead of the cold air advection behind the storm fell when temperatures were in the mid 30s and didn’t stick.
  3. The snow has really picked up in intensity here in the last half hour. NWS has issued a WWA for Onondaga County for tonight for 2-4 inches.
  4. The temperature just dropped 5 degrees in the last 10 minutes, now down to 32.
  5. Sorry, I did see that. KSYR is at +1C about the same as me. It looks like there is a frontal boundary of some sort across Onondaga County.
  6. Just checked the observation at Fulton and it is -6C. It’ll be interesting to see if my temperature plunges shortly.
  7. My thermometer tends to run a few degrees warmer during the daylight. It’s still above freezing since it’s snowing at least moderately and its not accumulating on bare surfaces.
  8. Finally melted the snow/ice in my collection tube. I measure 0.74 inches of liquid which only produced an accumulation of 2.5 inches. That’s a 3:1 ratio.
  9. The snow has picked up here again. Unfortunately the temperature is up to 36 so it will have a hard time accumulating until the temperature falls again.
  10. There’s a line of snow from Sodus to Lyons to Geneva moving west to east. That appears to represent the wind shift line. If it holds together all of us in the Syracuse area should see a burst of snow in the next hour.
  11. Out of it like New England at halftime the other night (or the Steelers last night).
  12. The killer here is every time an area of snow approaches from the south it dissipates before it reach the Sizzlecuse.
  13. 1/4 mile visibility at KROC. KROC 171422Z 04016G25KT 1/4SM R04/1600V2400FT +SN FZFG BLSN VV005 M02/M03 A2912 RMK AO2 P0003
  14. Are people staying home today? There’s a show on The Weather Channel here called Heavy Rescue 401 that basically follows heavy wreckers as they clear accidents on the 401 in Ontario. They state that the 401 in Toronto is the busiest highway in North America.
  15. Im literally 2-3 miles east of some steadier snow. That looks to be over Matt.
  16. Not doing anything in Brewerton right now, in fact there are breaks in the overcast. Measured 2.5 inches of beach sand. Waiting for the snow in the tube to melt to get a liquid amount.
  17. Toronto’s getting nailed right now. 1/8 mile visibility as of the last report from Pearson airport.
