The euro and GFS BOTH look very cold towards the end of the week coming up. Thursday it looks like we could see highs in the 30s and lows in the teens with some upslope snow. Friday looks cold also.

Even down here in the southern triad NWS is forecasting a low of 26 Friday morning.

Looks like a pretty stout hail core and some rotation heading towards jburns.

And it got here.  Quite the active storm.  Not very long lasting but intense. Heavy rain, pea sized hail, lightning strikes caused 3 momentary power outages, weather station registered a 43.4 mph wind gust partally confirmed by the branches lying in my yard. Also the temperature dropped from 72º to 59º in about 6 minutes.  All in all one of the more entertaining storms in several years.

Not really, and the event did not verify the aggressive wording of "potentially violent" tornadoes either (again, a good thing).

I think the average person would classify any tornado they were caught in as violent.  Sometimes the NWS and SPC shoots themselves in the foot when it comes to informing the general public. The wording of the severe thunderstorm probabilities are a case in point.

    MARGINAL (light green)

    SLIGHT  (dark green)

    ENHANCED (Yellow)

    MODERATE (Red)

    HIGH (Magenta)

Moderate is a higher level than enhanced?  Everyone I know knows the difference between marginal and slight.  One means just a little and the other means not much.   Colors don’t help. I’ve never seen a fire engine with flashing magenta lights. Over complicated and just cries out for something simple. I know!!!! Some folks in India invented a system for doing just this almost 2000 years ago that is perfect for this kind of differentation and would not confuse anyone.

    Level 1

    Level 2

    Level 3

    Level 4

    Level 5

Everyone I know really does know that 4 is more than 3.

Some sort of frozen... something...fell at my house for a few seconds just a minute ago.  Not sure if it was hail or sleet or what.  51 F in my backyard.

If it had a blue tint check the airline schedules. :P

Finally got my first Covid vaccination today, got my Pfizer shot. Drove down to Dunn,. NC to get it, in and out in a half hour

Good. You will feel a lot better a week or two after your second shot. A bit of freedom is very enjoyable after a year of hunkering down.

Yep I remember that last year too. If you sneezed while out and about, everyone would look at you and think you have covid.

My anxiety was bad last year too and still it to an extent. It def sucks

Yep.  That was the main cause of the toilet paper shortages. Every time someone would sneeze everyone within fifty feet would sh*t their pants.

How about this trend of warmth in SE as a global warming hotspot? I always thought in the early 2000s, it would be +PNA warming, with above average everywhere and average in the SE... It seems now even in favorable patterns for SE cold, it just doesn't happen. Alberta clippers stopped sometime in the late 1990s. What's the correlation with melting arctic sea ice and Southeast, US temps? Get ready for a dead period in the 11-15 day.

When sea ice is melting, warm rain will be pelting.

  9. This one gets a F from me.  I don’t give points for snows that look like a heavy frost.  Rain, fog and thick clouds for days on end is another negative.  One night it rained for six straight hours and my weather station never moved from 32.1º.  Now that is just rubbing it in. In fact that is worth a minus.

    So: F-

Looks like some freezing rain/snow showers will be possible along the Escarpment tomorrow morning.  Something to watch.

Could be some slippery spots between the hours of 6am and 8am.  Putting that information into my southern winter weather calculator I get the results of 4 gallons of milk and 6 loaves of bread per each four member household.

EDIT: I don’t know what the site did to my video but if you click on the mp4 it starts playing in a smaller window that you can enlarge.. At least it does for me.  Let me know if it doesn’t and I will delete the post.
