Ya know spiders can get in there and prevent the tipper from moving with their webs...happened to me with my rain gage and anemometer.

Thank you, that’s exactly what it was, the tipper was held in place by cobwebs, despite being full of water. I check periodically and I’d never seen anything other than pollen and dirt inside the gauge.

woah you saw that?! that would be amazing lol.

about the rain gage thing let me know how it goes if you do get it cleaned, I have two digital rain gages that both stopped working so I was hoping there's a way to fix them.

It was a small pink ball, encircled by a thin bolt, that randomly appeared a few feet off the ground 100-200 feet away. No thunder, it simply appeared and disappeared.

This makes me wish I had that lightning detector app thing that helps you take pictures of lightning lol.

I know, I thought about setting up my camera, but it’s been at least 4 years since I’ve last captured lightning, I don’t even remember how to do it lol.

I've given up on digital rain gages lol they always seem to fail during big rainfall events.  I use the regular analog variety now.

I’m so pissed, it’s never given me an issue until today. I even poured a bottle of water in it and it registered nothing. I hope it’s just an obstruction, this thing is barely 6 months old.

Best lightning I’ve seen in Suffolk maybe ever. Neighbors tree got hit

I agree, this is easily Florida-level. Top 5 ever for me in terms of lightning, I haven’t seen this many close by CG’s since I lived in Queens.

I saw a what I believe was a power flash to my SE and half of the sky turned pink for 5 seconds. All while fiddling with my malfunctioning PWS, I ran inside after that lol.

No way! There’s different climate there!

Not really, LGA, PHL, and BWI are all quite similar. We see greater differences locally, Central Park is wetter than JFK by 7 inches.

    LGA - 55.7° (mean) - 44.71” (precip) - 26.6” (snow)

    PHL - 55.8° (mean) - 41.50” (precip) - 21.9” (snow)

    BWI - 55.6° (mean) - 41.85” (precip) - 20.1” (snow)

    DCA - 58.2° (mean) - 39.71” (precip) - 15.4” (snow)

I used to live in the DMV area, it’s not all that different compared to NYC (aside from March), in recent years the difference in the amount of snowfall between the two has been pretty extreme, however. That isn’t exactly “normal” though.

There was significant snow during early daylight hours of Sunday, Jan.20, 1985, in Brooklyn at least,  on strong NW winds and 11degs.    It cleared and we set a -2deg. record Monday morning.

Thanks. I didn’t know this was possible in our neck our the woods. Also, it’s interesting to know the conditions leading up to one of the coldest nights in history.

He didn't say 10 degrees. Your post said mid 20's...and he's saying that there have been numerous storms with snow with colder temps than 25.     You are correct, many storms are b/w 25-33 however to say that it's exceedingly rare to see a snowstorm at less than 25 is not accurate...there are plenty of examples over the last 30-40 yrs.

His post said 10 degrees with heavy snow, which is why I responded in the first place, I was genuinely curious, it wasn’t an “Oh you’re wrong”-type of response. I said I was unsure if I’d ever seen heavy snow below 25 degrees, lower 20’s probably would’ve made more sense.

I never said it was exceedingly rare, only that it isn’t the norm, and wasn’t anything I’d noticed.

You’re crazy I’ve seen it numerous times. Guess you’re too young. Less playing more reading youngin

You’ve seen heavy snow at 10 degrees numerous times?

    Sorry this just isn’t accurate

So most snowstorms don’t occur when it’s roughly 28-33 degrees? Perhaps I’m off, but it certainly feels that way.

25 was probably too warm though, 22-23 would’ve been more fitting. I’ve never seen snow at anything remotely close to 10 degrees, however.

Numerous storms have featured heavy snow below that-Jan 1996, Jan 2014 are just 2 examples...

their been plenty of examples of heavy snow where the temps were under 25 degrees.. the 1996 blizzard even the 2010 christmas blizzard temps were around that mid 20's

So it seems that it isn’t a common occurrence. It feels like the vast majority of our snow events occur with temps near freezing, but I suppose it depends on one’s location.

Precip at 10 degrees is something I’ve definitely never witnessed, but we’re rarely that cold for any appreciable amount of time, if it gets that cold at all.
