  1. The temp has been slowly falling here. Now down to 37F and wet flakes are mixing in with the rain. April!
  2. Well played MXZ. Here's my point and click for the weekend which is utterly craptacular: Tonight A chance of rain showers before 5am, then a chance of rain and snow showers. Increasing clouds, with a low around 34. Light south wind. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Total nighttime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. Saturday Rain and snow, becoming all rain after 11am. Some thunder is also possible. High near 45. Calm wind becoming west 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. Saturday Night Rain showers likely before 10pm, then a chance of rain and snow showers between 10pm and midnight, then a slight chance of snow showers after midnight. Some thunder is also possible. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 30. West wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. Sunday A chance of snow showers before 1pm, then a chance of rain and snow showers between 1pm and 2pm, then a chance of rain showers after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 40. West wind 7 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Little or no snow accumulation expected. Sunday Night A chance of rain and snow showers before 8pm, then a slight chance of snow showers between 8pm and 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 29. West wind 3 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
  3. I'm already excited about next fall. I think we are going to have 2 good, exciting teams to root for, for the first time in who knows how many years.
  4. I'd say give them a chance. This is a very different team than the one that took to the ice last fall. I've been a hockey fan for decades. The Sabres of the last 3 years were unwatchable for me they were so bad. I couldn't get through a game because the lack of skill and more importantly the lack of effort was repulsive. The talent level now is rising rapidly and the effort is there. So is the coaching. These guys are young and hungry and want to win. If UPL is any good in goal next year, or they can add a good veteran goalie, they could be competing for a playoff spot this time next year.
  5. I always tell people that April is the worst month to live in upstate NY. So it's clear that I know that fact. And yet when April gets here I am still amazed by just how much it sucks. Cold mud season is vile.
  6. His writing style is not my favorite. It seems like he just throws a bunch of *stuff* against the wall looking to see what sticks. I'm not even sure the data he presents always supports his conclusions. I'd take the other side of a trade against this guy given the opportunity.
  7. It's all elevation. It was 30F when I woke up. Just ticked up to 33F.
  8. Just drove my kids to the barn. Lovely but not so much for "spring".
  9. Nothing says "spring" in upstate NY like a couple of inches of slush....
  10. Next fall is going to be a great time to be a Buffalo sports fan. It should be the best we have had in many many years.
  11. I think that's where his age shows. He looked really slow on that goal. I don't know if coming out aggressively and poke checking is in his bag of tricks, and it is probably too late to add it.
  12. Another solid effort from the Sabres last night. They had a great month of March. Look at the teams they beat. They played at least as well as the Jets last night, who are a low end playoff team. I think that's what the Sabres are right now: Competitive as a low end playoff team. Of course they aren't getting in this year because of the first half of the season. But I have big hopes for next year.
  13. Just rode my bicycle to work, 13F outside. The bloom is off that rose once we get to the end of March. I mean it's fine but I'd prefer to not have another ride that cold for at least another 6 or 7 months.
  14. The old saying rings true: Out in the country we look up and startle when we hear sirens but don't do much when we hear gunshots. In the city they ignore sirens but pay careful attention to gunshots.
  15. My wife and I lived in Amherst and worked in Buffalo at the VA, ECMC, and RPCI in the late nineties. It was a dangerous sh**hole. When we left, if you told me we would be bringing our kids for long weekends and staying in downtown Buffalo 20 years later I would have laughed at you. But here we are doing it. It's so much better than it was back then but it's still not perfect.
  16. We were in a similar situation. My wife really wanted to go, I was sort of "meh" and wanted to go canoe the Boundary Waters for our honeymoon. She was definitely right. Hawaii is spectacular. We also paddled the NaPali coast so everyone was happy. The Big Island is great too.
  17. I couldn't believe it when I saw it this morning. I went to bed after the first period. They were down 3-0. I figured after 5 consecutive OT games, and a back to back road game, this just wasn't going to be their night. Amazing. What a change of character for this team. Bye bye Jack we don't miss you at all.
  18. They have been unwatchable for the last 3 years. Now I’m watching most of the games and really enjoying seeing them develop and improve. Getting rid of you know who and getting Granato are the best things to happen to them in years.
  19. If I have to be on call and stuck at work, this weekend certainly seems like a good time for it. The forecast looks like a steaming pile of......
  20. April is always the cruelest month around here. Go visit Washington DC or environs in April and you really see it. It’s actual spring there. Flowers, budding trees, green grass and warm sun on your back. It’s not that far away but the difference in spring weather is tremendous.
  21. They are giving up a lot for a guy who has great talent but tremendous risk to his career.
  22. Anything less than 8 inches is not welcomed now. I rode my nice bicycle to work today and loved every minute of it. There's no going back unless it's really a big one.
  23. Corner is a really hard position for a first year player, even a first rounder, to play well as a rookie. We have some tough QBs to face next year…… At that price I would have kept Levi. Oh well.
