  1. Clearing along the back fence took place yesterday. I think the roc garden will disappear today. Not sure if the intent is to have everything done today or not. I'm guessing they might still need another day. Looks like a string of COC will accompany the new seeding. I was hoping I wouldn't need to do a lot of watering myself. Alas.
  2. there was another one on my deck yesterday. I haven't noticed any on our oak or evidence of eating. Might get a better idea once the landscapers clear out a lot of overgrown crap along our back fence. Supposedly, the work begins today. I'm psyched.
  3. Nope---this is before any work started. The circular area is where they once had a pool. They're going to take out that crappy raised garden and regrade so we have a slope rather than a 4' cliff. Hopefully the grass will come in quickly once it's planted.
  4. Well, the disaster of a back yard project is about to begin.
  5. One on the deck and one on the front porch.
  6. You ran, but not before you took the picture. I saw my first two gypsies today.
  7. Thanks! Nope Not sure what this means....I think they're individual leaves. Thanks for the insights guys. I'm glad I wasn't way off base with my dogwood guess.
  8. Anyone know what kind of tree this is? Some type of dogwood? (no flowers though). Curious as to how tall it might get. The guy coming to do our backyward landscaping project is expecting to start Monday afternoon or Tuesday. The disaster is nearly done! Also, be picked out our tree.....it's a red sunrise maple. They'll put that is when they're doing the rest of the job.
  9. Looks great! I need to put down some fertilizer with weed killer. Perhaps this weekend. Meanwhile, marathon lawn growth coming up beginning today. Should be pretty tall for tomorrow's mowing.
  10. Thanks--this is really helpful. I don't think we'll wait beyond this year to plant anything. I just discovered this week that we have a couple chestnut trees tucked behind the garage (I think they're ours). How much of a canopy do they have?
  11. I think that's the nature of fast-growing trees. We're looking for one ourselves....perhaps a weeping willow or a red maple.
  12. Not typically getting them a Lowe's though. They also sell oaks with the option of a box of gypsies.
  13. Mowing and mulching done for the day. More mulching still needed (tomorrow???). we COC, 69* at ORH.
  14. Thanks. Maybe I should wait on anything that's pre-emergent and just find something that does-in broad leaf stuff (clovers, dandelionis, unknown).
  15. bump Is there any type of pre-emergent crabgrass prevention that can also control existing broad-leaf crap? It would be great to do this in one fell swoop. I think my seeded areas have effectively 'emerged' so I don't need to worry about that too much. TIA.
  16. What are the thoughts of when to fertilize again (I also need one that has broad-leaf control to take out some clover and such)? Thanks!
  17. Looks great, Scott. Despite the crappy day, I might do a little mulching today.....make it appear that I did something useful while my wife was away.
