No dude. I'm funny. I even won the funniest guy award in high school and I've never looked back

And your emotional swings from model to model run… From ecstasy to total despair. From epic winter to complete disaster.  That, in itself, is funny.

Impressive -NAO towards the end of the 6z GEFS. The less favorable look on the Pacific side should be brief. Already looks like the Aleutian low is redeveloping with a bit of a ridge building out in front.

Looks good. We all expected the real primary threat of snow to start coming later in January into February.

Oh, HELL yeah. Sure, it's a little cooler than I like today....and after last night's temps, the magnolia trees now look like they're covered in last week's moldy porridge....but oh, I'm happy-dancing because official spring is here. (Now, to contend with the achy sinuses....)

Did you check out the Washington Post today.  Apparently, Alaska is the #4 retirement "destination" in the U.S. behind Arizona, California, and Florida. You'll have company.

Surprisingly, to people on this list,  desire for snow is not believed to be the main reason.

They must love 20 hours of darkness.

I do worry about that ridge. But..if we get a crazy retrograding block, string phase 8 mjo which shifts the pac ridge northeast and links with the NAO block…and it still can’t win v that ridge… well you tell me?  Then what?  What exactly are we looking for?  Can’t say “it’s the pac” anymore because the pac forcing is about to become pretty neutral and combined with the blocking certainly not something you can use to blame and excuse that kind of ridge!

So yes I am concerned the ridge wins. But I’d it does that’s the conclusion of my book right there!

Does the MJO in 8 really help? It always seems to me that the MJO hurts us when it’s in an unfavorable phase but never seems to make much difference when in 8-1-2.

Albany likely isn’t far enough. I’d say northern NY or Northern VT. This is where the snow really is if you don’t use the clown maps that include ice as snow.

New York City area is supposed to get 4-8 inches tonight.
