I love snow but cannot empathize with his plight. It’s glorious outside. Hoodie walking the dog, 42F and sun feels so warm. Pack started the day at 21” after last night’s 6”. Now the trees are snow free, birds chirping, like a different season all the sudden.

A little jealous. Looking forward to tomorrow.

High expectations. Trying not to let the past 4-5 winters cloud judgement.

It's been a decent gradient type season. Once north of the gradient, it's been a respectable season for wintry vibe. The lack of torches during prime winter months definitely helped spread the "old school winter" phrase around. Moisture steaming into the terrain. Been snowing hard, 1-2” per hour. 4.5” fluff so far. +SN.

HRRR is fairly robust for tonight’s clipper from here to the Mainers/KLEW.

With that said, we have a clipper coming that should lead to some accumulations. Stat padders. Euro looks most believable given the set-up (above). The GFS has been over-doing the orographic QPF in numerous events Reality could be the average the GGEM has between the GFS/ECM.

I hate that I’m looking forward to some warmer days. Getting old. With the time change, and late day light… my most uplifting time of year is when sunlight is on the increase. Which is weird for someone who loves the winter environment. But sun and warmth over winter snowpack, big fan at the right time of year.

We only got on the fringe echos, but the flake growth was big and fluffy. Only a half inch of air here. The 30-35dbz echoes had to be 1-2”/hr rates.

Yeah for sure, wind events can be localized. It might not be the most impressive event for a particular location, but the obs over a large geographic zone is a sign of a solid event.

I won’t lie, I think 45-60mph measured over a large area is a fun weather day.

Snow falling steadily again. The terrain has led to another wall of precip over the barrier as westerly moist flow feeds into the terrain relief.

When logic, dreams, and reality all mix together it can be hard to stay level headed.

Would the opinion change if the "look" was good? Probably not, ha. Everyone expects failure by now.

The Riverbed that essentially funnels 2,000ft+ verts of water down the Gondola area really blew out at a long swath of elevations. It’s good to see some of the photos for when it inevitably gets covered by snow. The Whitewater glade earned its name.

For SWE? I've seen 30". The scale goes all the way around once and starts a second round, ha.

Yeah for the most part it did. There are just some prominent drainages that can blow out in high rainfall rates. It poured for a time last night, like 0.20"/hr rainfall can get some of the drainages going and it's all ice dammed up. A patroller took this of like a 15 foot debris pile at the bottom of a steep gully. The steep waterfall type terrain blows out first.

We had damage last night on the hill from water. That pack is deep and cold but the streams and drainages need to go somewhere… just sometimes not in their channels.

I was surprised with 0.80” of rain our pack in town only went from 21” to 19” as of this morning’s obs.

Interesting. I don’t think it’s primed. Sure there will be melt and compression, but it’s still a pretty cold and dry pack relatively speaking. It’ll be the cutters to come that do damage. This system is just adding to the potential by dumping some more water into the snowpack.

I’ll put the rainfall amounts on the snow report tomorrow, ha. She’s getting wet out there. 21” of SWE in 77” on the core samples at the 3kft. Think we add an inch of water to that by tomorrow afternoon when it should start to flip back to -SN. Saw the Snowbird Utah SNOTEL at 9,100ft is showing 28” of SWE in 81”. Decently more liquid out there for similar depth, which is interesting for a place like Utah.
