I can’t believe the crappy 2018-19 winter had some of the lowest maxes of the past couple decades

the first six winters I was alive for did not have a max in the teens...a max of 15 is pretty cold...more than a few snowy winters had no days with a max in the teens...

  7. nothing like a major storm with a foot or more of snow with temperatures in the teens and single digits and near ten as the storm ends...not to mention strong winds...Dec 1960, Jan 1961, Jan 1964 and Feb 67 were storms in that category...2004 and 2014 had cold snowstorms but not like those 1960's storms...Jan 1965 had a 5" event with a max of 17...Jan 2018 was the last time a cold wave followed a major storm...the storm itself was in the 20's when snow was falling...

  8. under the heading stuff nobody cares about I found a discrepancy for the December 1947 big storm and the total monthly snowfall...I have almanacs showing Central Park getting 26.4" on December 26th-27th 1947...the final monthly snowfall was 29.6" for the most ever in December...I checked the latest snowfall table for Central Park and its 30.2" in December 1947...the original local climate data has 25.8" for the storm and 29.6" for the month......
