Beautiful and clear in BTV but high clouds aren't too far away. Need to decide whether to stay here or try and shoot east for added wiggle room from low-mid lvl clouds

I'm going to point it towards the clearest area within 8-10 hours. I'll leave here the night before and drive overnight so I get wherever by sunrise to avoid the worst traffic and find a place to park. As long as there's cold beer and a bathroom I'm good.
That's a solid plan. ADK/NNE would obviously be ideal, but it's probably a pipe dream given climo and the ongoing active pattern.

Are any of you folks chasing the eclipse? I have a few days carved out on either side so I can travel just about wherever it's clear along the centerline

As nice as these days have been my driveway is still wet and the sides are still soggy, not to the point where water comes up around your shoes when you step on it but it still squishes. Someday my neighbors will move and I can cut the thicket down so the sun and wind can get to the ground. Until then as long as this wet regime hangs around I guess I'll just watch the moss grow and crumble the terminally soggy pavement
The plant diseases and soil issues are gonna be totally unmanageable this year. I have close to zero motivation to grow anything at this point

I had about 4" at home when I left around 8:30. Currently up at the overlook on Bull Hill in Cold Spring waiting for the views to open up when the back edge of the moisture pulls through in a few minutes. Seems like about 9" here.

I think we are confidently shafted up here in Dutchess. 2-4 inches based on the latest HRRR.
We're cooked.

Seems like I'm in serious danger of getting fringed up here as the south trend continues unabated. That would suck.

So the science is settled then. And while I don’t appreciate your tone it is indicative of those in your community who broadly paint people with my viewpoint in a negative light as being naïve or just plain stupid. While majority consensus doesn’t make something true I do take comfort in knowing that there are many scientists who disagree with your premise.
You believe that money doesn’t influence outcomes, that is naïve, in the 60’s cigarette companies paid doctors to say it’s ok for pregnant women to smoke. I really don’t know why I bother engaging in these conversations as they never produce any fruit. You believe In your religion and I will believe in mine. And one more thing, I won’t be bullied by the likes of you or anyone anywhere.
And you want me to believe that 0.04% of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere is the engine that’s driving “global warming” is absurd.

It’s about as miserable as it gets outside.
January 2024, in sum.

There were some pretty good gusts here for a time from around 3 to 5. The airport PWS down the street was clocking upper 50s.

It's nice that I didn't lose much snow depth today. Haven't checked the forecast lately but I'm sure this is the start of a deep and long-lived pack!

How much did you pick up additionally today? Got 2-3 inches more for a depth of 14-15 inches now
I got a bonus 1.4" today, pretty nice. Maximum depth never exceeded 12.5", but I'm just gonna add 12.0" + 1.4" because life is short and joy is hard to come by

Roads are getting snow covered again with this latest burst

I called it a night after reaching the 12.0" mark around midnight in central Dutchess, now depth is down to 11.5". Light snow grains at 29F

I don't want to jinx it now, but it looks like you're finally going to put an end to your single storm double digit January snow drought.
I should get a foot, even without help from the daytime stuff tomorrow. What a great event. The intensity and flake size are awe-inspiring right now - when one of the big aggregates lands on my jacket, it almost feels like being hit by a snowball

Getting into the final death band now, pouring enormous aggregate flakes. 9.5" at 11:30, let's see where I'm at in another half hour

I'm glad some folks in the neighborhood still had their lights on for this storm

Yeah, this is some of the heaviest snow I've ever seen. Almost 7" in the last two hours.
