The secret is to get as close to Roxboro without being in Roxboro. That place is like a time machine, you go 40 years in the past.
lived in between roxboro and rougemont for 18 years before going off to college. I enjoy the laid backness of that area. But since living closer to a big city for the last 17 years...i couldnt take being that far from civilization again. Do miss the snows though

North Greensboro driving car temperature is 35 and I think I am seeing wet snow flakes !
i was about to come post that the northern areas of the state should be seeing some mixing soon with the 850's being where they are and surface temps diving

It's a lot better that it's snow instesd of something looe a tornado outbreak catching people off guard. I just think in this day and age the technology should be better to have such differences in the models and such dramatic changes this close to go time and. But it is what it is. It will either snow or not. Maybe it would be better to just wait and see what happens instesd of trying to see what the models show might happen.
comparing the ability to forecast snow correctly in this climate to tornado outbreaks shows just how out of touch you are. Seriously, take your whining about the models to the sanitarium thread. People are in this thread for actual discussion of what the models are showing and the actual storm

im surprised the heavy sanitarium talk gets allowed in this thread. Back when i posted here more regularly years ago, if you talked about busts and what not in this type of thread, you'd get bopped back to the stone age.

From a huge storm on the global models to nothing here in less than 12 hours and only 48 hours out. Going to be hard to trust the models at all outside 24 hours after this one. This is a Falcons against the Pats in the Super Bowl level of collapse.
i've seen you post this numerous times now. You've been here for over a decade. If you think not trusting the models outside of 24 hours(heck, even closer than that) is something new...then you haven't been paying attention. I couldn't count the number of storms on all my fingers and toes over the past decade that showed a hefty snow only to completely dissipate on the models over the last few days.

This actually wouldn't surprise me one bit. Early Jan '17 storm did the same thing for Hampton Roads. Was supposed to be a light to moderate event, if my memory serves me right we were even calling ~2-4 inches in the Navy weather office ~24 hours out with models having gone back and forth with moisture. The morning of the event the models flipped to more moisture and Norfolk ended up with 9 inches (more in spots). Ain't over till its over.
Yep, its why i don't give up but also don't get too overhyped with these events anymore. Heck, just last weekend i was supposed to get close to an inch of freezing rain with a dusting to an inch of snow/sleet. Ended up getting around 3 inches of snow/sleet and just a very brief glaze of freezing rain. Won't really know what its going to do until the flakes start falling...or not falling

I hope i'm wrong but everyone may get a whole lot of nuttin'. 2 days out and models still all over the place. I see a lot of wishcasting. Again, I hope I'M WRONG but there's a tiny window for Southern snow/ice etc., and this isn't it.
I mean, its very possible that in 2 days we get a whole lotta nothin. However you can't really say the models are all over the place after what we've seen the last few pages. If anything, they're all saying, more or less, the same exact thing.

Models really look good for Charlotte northeast through the Triangle and up to SE VA. They are showing a definite consensus with the heaviest totals in that area. So, either the models are going to be totally off or they start falling apart 48 hours out.
ive been around long enough to see both happen, lol
-
pretty much every model run tonight has put 8+ inches in my backyard. However i've been around too long to light the cigar yet. I do like how they are beginning to come to a consensus though

I feel okay in my part of town.
yup. If that were to be what happened, you and I would be right in the bullseye here in N Durham

Lived in Union County at the time. Last good snowfall of more than 1-2 inches i've seen in person. Would love those totals in Durham again this weekend.

still freezing rain in north durham....tops of trees are starting to look a little droopy. Hoping this crap ends now.
i take it back...just regular rain it looks like now. Got water draining out of my gutters thats not freezing at all. Yard is going to be a mess
-
Freezing rain has started here and trees are garnering a very quick glaze. Hoping this is short lived…don’t want any power issues
-
N. Durham, 29 degrees and still just pouring sleet. Id say a good 3 inches of snow/sleet compacted mix. Grass is almost fully covered with only the tips of the highest stalks showing.
-
still just pouring sleet here in N. Durham. Cracks on my back deck are completely covered. I'd guess somewhere between 2-3 inches of compressed snow/sleet. Alot more than i expected out of this storm. I figured we would be in the rain portion of this event already
-
Mentioned I thought freezing rain was mixing in earlier here in north Durham, but I think it’s still all sleet here as the trees are completely dry and there’s zero ice accrual anywhere. 26 degrees. Supposed to be a high of 42 today….I’ll be surprised
-
i THINK some freezing rain mixing in with the sleet now. Was hoping the sleet would hang on longer...now the wait to see if we can keep our power throughout the day
-
25 degrees still in n Durham and I still hear sleet hitting the windows.
