I will admit. Use of that word is probably the one behaviour that I have struggled to change the most as I have aged. Knowing the negative connotations of it, the harm the use of it comes to so many, and the knowledge that other, less harmful terms exist, I still struggle to not use it. I even did in response to the other post, even though I know it's wrong. What's worse is I have friends and a fiance who work directly with developmentally disabled folks and they're great. I would never call them that to their face, but I use the word to describe other crap all the time, even though I know it's wrong. I have much work to do. Hopefully someday I find where that word is no longer a part of my vocabulary.
