  1. My team has been the laughingstock of baseball for years. We were referred to as the "Zer-O's" in recent years. And to go out this year and win 101 games and then not win a single playoff game?
    That hurt.

I had a feeling the Birbs were going to fall on their face this postseason. Frankly, they punched above their weight all season and in the AL East, that was impressive, but they're not there yet. In the playoffs, you need to either 1) have the experience to be able to handle the grind and the pressure or 2) have somebody who doesn't care about any of that and has this swagger that is capable of carrying everyone across the line, and I don't think the Orioles possessed either going into the playoffs, especially with this stupid fn bye week.

Neither the Rangers nor the Diamondbacks have 1) but I think they both have 2). This series is going to be Adolis Garcia vs Corbin Carroll and it's going to be insane.

The O's have the lineup, and it's ridiculous that they're only going to get better, but they weren't ready this year and I definitely get the hurt. I think that hurt will be eased in a season or two. It's not like the Yankees or Red Sox are going to be any better any time soon, the AL Central will always suck, the Astros are in their twilight, and the Rangers/Mariners will probably trade AL West crowns. The Orioles will get there. But you had every right to feel hurt.

I just don't think hurt or anger from Philadelphia or Los Angeles or Atlanta or Houston is justified right now.

  2. I was 18 when the Orioles won a World Series.
40 years later Phillies fans...40 years later...and we haven't even made it back...
I kinda operate under the philosophy with baseball that given there have been so few champions in such a long history (I mean we're approaching 150 years), that if your club has won a trophy, you have like, 10 years where you can't complain about things. Thinking about this more this morning, I wonder if it should be 25 years.

In which case, the Phillies are covered by 2008 and y'all can shut it lol.

  3. If you're a Philadelphia sports fan, your anger should be directed at Wells Fargo centre and at both tenants. The 76ers should have won one or two titles by now with the roster they amassed and the dominance of Embiid. They ain't done shit.

And if I had five minutes with the Flyers front office, they'd lock me up and throw away the key. I hate every single person who ruined them after 2010. My only solace is that Hextall went out to Pittsburgh and ruined them, too.

  4. And spare me the "I'm pissed they went two straight years with nothing to show for it."

    Atlanta Braves in the 1990s:

Lost 1991 World Series in 7 games, the sixth and seventh games in extra innings.

Lost 1992 World Series in 6 games.

Lost 1993 NLCS in 6 games.

    Won 1995 World Series.

Lost 1996 World Series in six games.

Lost 1997 NLCS in six games.

Lost 1998 NLCS in six games.

    Lost 1999 World Series, swept.

Imagine the pink slime of atomic ass hurt you'd have witnessed coming from Atlanta had 1995 not happened. To follow that up, there was an additional 12 years of first round exists.

Now imagine being an Orioles fan or a Pirates fan.

    Still mad?

  5. I don't get this "I won't be watching" shit. You're hurt, I get it, but get the fuck over it. The 40 men who just lost a shot at money and glory are likely going to sulk about it for a day or two and then take a vacation and it happened to THEM.

162 game season with maybe 20 days off during that time.
Only 7 teams (which I maintain is too many) per league get in.
    Only two can win pennants.

Phillies were picked by almost nobody to win the pennant, they destroyed the absolute best team in baseball by shutting down a historical offense, and then went seven games against a team who just had a little bit more left. They didn't hurt you. They played with house money and almost hit the jackpot again.

I promise you you're not hurting any more than Orioles fans were the day after they got bounced. Get past it.

And watch the damned World Series so they think it works and don't tinker with baseball any further.

  6. The only constant in the last five years has been the Astros and even that crashed out this year. I think their championship window is closing. The Braves, Phillies, Dodgers, Rangers, Orioles, are all within championship windows. Each team has a need that must be filled to see it through, but these clubs, maybe the Phillies to a smaller degree, should be who define the next decade of baseball.

The Mets will be in this scenario within a few years once they launder enough cash to buy every player available.

I can't see the Diamondbacks being capable of keeping Mr. Carroll into his next contract. They are a shock entrant and I wouldn't be at all surprised if they were fourth in the NL West next season.

  7. I won’t watch 1 minute of this trash World Series!
This could be historic low TV ratings for the World Series.
Are you really crying about ratings because your team lost? Give me a break. A Phillies - Rangers World Series wasn't about to set Nielsen on fire, either.

There are about five ballclubs people watch in this country:

    Yankees
    Dodgers
    Cardinals
    Red Sox
    Braves

You get any of those five clubs in the fall classic and it sells. Even if they're playing the Rockies or the Rays. The Astros may get heel heat viewership but my guess is people are past that anger enough to where they no longer care. Aside from that, you may get one good game of viewership in a shock World Series like you got in 2015 with the Royals vs Mets, but that's it.

Ain't nobody outside of Arlington, Glendale, and fanatics watching this series, and it wouldn't have been any different if the Phillies had advanced.

  8. Pat Principe says PSU lost because of coaches, O-Line and WR's.  QB?   A-OK
Allar sucks but are you going to deny he doesn't have a sieve in front of him and wideouts who arent D1 level?

He could have had Allen Robinson out there but with no time to plant his feet and throw, he's not Trace McSorley, he's not going to run and heave a pass up there hoping Our Lady of Crazy Ass Plays is watching down on him, he ain't gonna hit anything.

Still, he stinks and I don't like him.

  9. Northern PA is beautiful, but holy Christ, that drive up 219 to Buffalo, from Ridgway to Ellicottville is one of the most depressing drives. It's one broken down, dilapidated settlement and one horse town after another. The poor folks were left behind by progress and across the NY line, they were left behind by the white devil, but goddamn. You make that drive on a cloudy day and you may want to stop and blow the brains out of the back of your head.

  10. I took a "tour" on googlemaps and have already watched a few videos. (all part of my work day, of course) Even got a nice look at that parking area and the road leading back to the lot and beach.
Might have to take a detour next September. My wife and I are committed to going to a Bills home game next year before they close down the current stadium. We want to experience the Bills Mafia. I'm still trying to convince her to do a swan dive into a folding table.
That stadium is in the middle of absolute nowhere. I drove past Orchard Park up 219 on a trip to the falls two years ago. On the Friday we went through, you could never know there was an NFL stadium anywhere within a hundred miles.

We left the falls and headed home just as the Bills were stomping a mud hole in the Washington Football Team's ass and walking it dry. We went through the same part of 219 just after the game ended. Even with event parking enforcement, you still could barely tell anything was going on.

Detoured into Hamburg looking for food because New York must have a law where they done have highway guide signs telling you where food may live, and Hamburg is a gorgeous town. That entire area is incredible.

Until you get past Ellicottville and it's a total shit hole all the way until Ridgway.

  11. I had to look that one up - it's got a perfect 5 rating on Google. It does look very nice.
Presque Isle State Park is perfect. It's immaculate for whatever you are wanting to do. Great for biking, hiking, sightseeing, especially the houses on the bay, and the beaches are spectacular. Beach #11 is supposedly their most popular, but I went there and it's so incredibly shallow that if you're bigger than four, you're basically standing in a glaciated mud puddle, but beach #6, just about 4-5 miles down there is perfect.

You park behind the dunes, walk through a very brief wooded area onto a big, well maintained and groomed beach. You're never going to be sitting on top of others, so you have plenty of room for privacy, the swimming area is pretty large, there's a deep part, it's plenty guarded, and there's a concession stand/souvenir store built into the restroom facility.

    Downsides:

Some stupid rules. No objects in the lake. First time I went, it was with two friends, we took a football. Verboten. I can understand not allowing a blow-up raft to prevent some smartass from trying to paddle to Kitchener, but seriously? A football is banned? I wanted to suplex the lifeguard.

    People from Ohio go there.

People from New York go there.

The nearest cell tower is in... Kitchener. So Verizon thinks you're about to use international rates.

But it's worth the trip. Erie in general is worth the trip.

  13. Trick or Treat is on Thursday here and it'll be close to 80 degrees. I can barely remember a single time as a kid when it was that warm. It was usually always pretty chilly but there were one or two times it wasn't that bad out...just not 80 degrees lol. Gonna feel bad for any kids who are wearing a heavy duty costume
My 20-month-old got my retard strength and I wanted to dress him up as Bam Bam but was afraid of the cold. He's going to be Scooby Doo instead and wear a ten pound dog suit.

I wish my brain worked as well as my arms.

  14. You said it better (and nicer) than what I can.
Can we buy out a contract with 9 years left on it?
You hope USC shitcans they coach and he decides to take his used car salesman shtick to LA. Dude sucks. Problem is, who do you get that's better? Penn State isn't going to go outside the program again after this fails. Manny Diaz has failed as a HC. So what's that leave you with? Coach Lavar? Bring in a warm body and hope someone like Paul Pusluszny decides to give it a shot?

"Not the guy" has won a Rose Bowl, a Fiesta Bowl, a Cotton Bowl, and a conference championship. State ain't getting anybody who can make that jump.

  15. 42 was my low. Color I don't think will be as good as last year, but we'll know in a week or so.
Up this way I think it was much better than last year. I may be wrong, but I don't remember it being so vivid last time around.

I didn't get up to Skybridge to leaf peep this year, though. Maybe I'll make it up in February to see if 30 inches of snow is enough to keep you alive after a 300 foot fall.
