Really throwin down here near downtown W-S. I am on 5th floor. Can't tell wind speeds but I would guess steady 30s and gusts over that.

Google Maps may also show current closures.
Thanks for that link. Headed back to W-S tomorrow from Daytona Beach area.

I think it's time for a thread.. The event is only 2 or 2 and a half days away and is on every model to varying degrees.
I nominate you since you will be in the crosshairs.

With the potential of more snow this weekend, I wonder what the record for frozen events (significant or not) in the month of March is for central NC?
right off hand I would have to look at 1960.

It snowed two inches here last year around almost that same exact date.
It can certainly happen. Would like to see model consensus before I am in on this one.

I keep hammering this home but the evolution of this event reminds me a great deal of 3/1/09.
Being 2 weeks later is not going to help us. Cold air marginal.

Yeah the guy that loves to bust on Bastardi, yet JB brought out the Ash Wednesday storm analog days ago before DT even sniffed it.

JB ranting on Twitter about his snow hole in Happy Valley. He's just as bad as the rest of us.

The cold earlier this month was notable due to the duration. I think GSO was aob freezing for around 204 hours straight. However, I think GSO only tied one record low and it wasn’t even during the “streak.” So, a couple record lows in Feb cold make the case for an even colder period yet to come.

Especially if we can get some snow cover :o)

I dont remember Feb 1996 being notable when I was growing up but thats probably because the 96 blizzard was so awesome.
For me on Groundhog day big ice storm followed by record cold for several days.

What's good for Mid Atlantic, is 99% of the time, not good for us. Don't remember 13/14 that well for us, but 95/96 was done for us after mid Jan
Not for me. Both winters had great Febs here.

Someone said a few weeks ago that this winter would feature a storm that we would not see coming until 4-5 days out. This fits the bill, more or less. Hats off to whoever said that, if this in fact pans out.
Somebody lucky please start blue turd thread

Well... the 6Z NAVGEM has a similar solution at 120, showing a swath of modest precip over the Carolinas as the trough axis approaches. Interesting.
EDIT: more precip at 126 across central/eastern NC as the coastal low forms near the OBX.
These redevelopment types never do well for me here in the western piedmont.

I have lived 1/2 a century and have seen some cold weather in my upstate SC area over the years, but never can I recall having 10 days or more of lows between 7 and 13 F with days hovering near 32 and stepping out into bright sunshine feel not much warmth.
Just think what it would have been had we had snow cover. Really amazing.

If you want to eat your liver, go over to OBS thread for NYC metro and check in. They are getting smoked right now.

I Agree...Role reversal lol. I was expecting to see higher totals for Richmond on his 1st call map. Hopefully he ups his amounts for Ric on his final call
DT's been wrong before too...

Trust me, being in DC taught me to keep expectations low. Constantly on the rain/snow line, and with no elevation. It was just heartening to read those comments above, especially from a Met. (Believe the PRO FORECASTER icon means a Met)
Lots of good mets here. HKY_WX is really trustworthy for Triad folks. His brother (RaleighWX) not too shabby either!

This will be my first Winter event as a Winston resident. Moved down from DC this summer. Maybe this could turn out decent here after all. Thanks for the good news!
Well take it from a long time resident, keep expectations low...

Super dynamic storm...strong, closed off 850mb low. A low that tugged to the coast is normally not good for GSP to CLT
Jan 22, 87 did have CAD the day before storm. it was upper 30's with NE wind all day. Not strong CAD but it was there.

one of the biggest busts in recent memory. what made it worse was the constant back and forth by mets as the event was unfolding and still being wrong every single time and getting attacked on twitter. just a sad situation all around..
Makes me wonder if they should just say "there is a winter storm coming, but we really dont know what it's going to do so just be prepared for anything".
