  1. Major airport weather stations have to get their act together and strive for accuracy; MKE's weather station is always several degrees higher than surrounding ones on offshore warm days like yesterday and today. Both days they hit 90F, but Timmerman and Waukesha, the closest local ones, were both in the mid 80s. Meanwhile ORD was generally lower than the weather stations around them, which I find odd as others have mentioned. As a weather geek, it kind of irks me that we can't trust major local airport weather stations as accurate imo.
  2. Round 1 underway, thinking Round 2 will weaken after this first batch hits, but who knows? It's been a pretty active few days after going 10 days with just a trace of rain.
  3. Things look pretty primed this afternoon for much of Southern Wisconsin for mainly a wind damage threat.
  4. Yeah, it held together even better on the west side of the lake, especially given the warm temps in the upper atmosphere. Looks like we're going to get some good storms for an hour or so.
  5. You can see the effects of the cap with the struggle for the line to push south now. It may well break apart entirely as it starts to stall over Central Wisconsin.
  6. I'm surprised the winds were almost nil for a time this afternoon, most of the obs in S Wisconsin/N Illinois had at least a 10mph sustained wind. I know that on days like this, 10mph would not feel like nearly enough though.
  7. I think it had me fooled, started to turn right once it crossed into Wisconsin, and seeing the systems the last couple days do this and sag further southward than progged I thought it would be the start of a trend, but it has eased up a bit on the turn.
  8. That one came barreling through at night here as well, even though I don't personally remember it (for you folks in Madison too).
  9. That complex in NW Wisconsin looks to have the right blinker on, even Madison and Milwaukee may be in its sights if it can maintain in this high instability environment.
  10. Temps in Southern Wisconsin May be impacted with this early morning MCS; starting in the low to mid 70s as opposed to the progged upper 70s, as well as some cloud cover most likely may make a difference.
  11. You better hope that convection in Wisconsin stays north/gets out of the way for Thursday’s high to verify.
  12. Time for me to do a Hawkeye; the ways the convection has managed to miss us since July 2nd is comical. I'd take a heavy thunderless rain shower right now; we're starting to need the rain...badly. Only a trace in the last 11 days.
  13. I get the disappointment of needing a coat for chilly air, but conversely I would find it discouraging for a front to not wipe out heat and humidity. Little airmass change.
  14. These are my favorite kind of summer days, except for the ones with heavy thunderstorms. A significant break from the heat (at least three straight days with highs under 80 it appears) and dews actually have dropped into the 40s late today.
  15. Even in this low shear environment, a pretty impressive cluster of storms just west of Madison.
  16. I expected the storms to weaken approaching Milwaukee but also looks to be weakening as it heads into Chicago. Onshore winds doing their thing.
  17. A lot of you can rejoice, ORD, DTW and DAY all hit 90F today for the first time this summer!
  18. Your city is probably one of the next
  19. Yeah, my NWS office does that, ticks me off a bit that they steer too much toward climo then end up getting temps wrong by 10F or so on the regular. They should know as much as anyone that temps do not tend to be very consistent so trending toward climo is not the smart choice.
  20. Be my guest, unless your main outdoor recreation is swimming or laying on the beach to try to get a tan, I don't see the allure of the warm, humid, but dry summer. We seem to be locked in to a pretty nice pattern here; heck, we haven't had a low at 60F or above yet this warm season officially. That's where so far only 2003 rivals this delayed summer start in recent years.
  21. Actually, a cold, dry winter and a warm/hot, dry summer is the worst combo. I think most weather enthusiasts here would agree, except those who only like big temp records.
  22. I'm really enjoying this week's general weather of 70s and sunny/low humidity while most others in the Midwest are sweating their behinds off. This type of weather is good for most outdoor activities except watersports and swimming.
  23. All it takes around here is 5 more miles inland and it was splendid: highs around 70, dews in the 50s, and two more similar days on tap. Cue Alek: best June climo!
  24. Yeah but it wouldn’t surprise me to see the wet anomalies expand north toward your area from what looks to be the southern and central Plains/Mississippi Valley for the first half of June anyways.
  25. Anyone else think 2003 is a good analog so far for this warm season? That seems to be the epitome of a slow start to summer around here among the last 20 years anyways.
