000 FXUS62 KGSP 061510 AFDGSP Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Greenville-Spartanburg SC 1010 AM EST Sat Jan 6 2024 SHORT TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT/... As of 145 AM EST Saturday: Low amplitude upper trough will settle over the northeastern CONUS during the daytime period Sunday as an elongated vort lobe rides the base of the trough and traverses across the CFWA. 1000mb-850mb flow will generally be west-northwest, following the departing system on Saturday, while low-level moisture profiles remain elevated and banked along the NC/TN border. Ongoing precipitation will continue along the NC/TN border Sunday morning, with lowering snow levels as CAA filters in and enough saturation for ice to develop in the cloud tops. An uptick in QPF response suggests heavier snow totals, which will support an over performing event, especially at elevations above 4000`. Dry air entrainment from the leading edge of a surface high moving in from the lower MS/Deep South will help shift winds to a northerly component and essentially cut off upslope snow showers by Sunday night as the center of the surface high sets up shop along the central/southern Appalachians. GSP upped the forecast upslope totals to 1-3" here tomorrow. Sent from my SM-S908U using Tapatalk
