  1. This time it's ok if it goes away, it's just a useless ice pack that's sketchy to move around on. The way the ice creeps into the roads as it melts during the day and refreezes at night is kind of scary too. It is kinda nice to look at this morning with flurries drifting down but I'd rather it be gone.
  2. So this morning around 10 when I finally went out it was 2" compacted snow topped with 1" of sleet and .2-.3" clear ice over everything. Areas that were shoveled or blown yesterday after the sleet was mostly over were solid ice but also melted off quickly. There's a fair bit of melting on asphalt but not on anything else, this stuff is locked up solid even though it's 37* out there. At least the ice has pretty much fallen out of the trees now because it was windy for a while this morning. The roads aren't bad but they're narrow.
  3. Every time the wind blows it's an ice cascade as everything falls off the trees. It sounds like breaking glass and hurts when it knocks you on the head. It was bright and sunny up until a few minutes ago, now the clouds are moving in. I'd sure like to see a wall to wall sunny day to melt off some of this carp.
  4. No that's the theory my wife chose to go with and now we have 3" of ice too. This sux because I'm not allowed to do anything to help make it better, guess we're just going to crawl up and down for a few days until it warms up on Friday.
  5. What a mess! The ice isn't as thick this time as last month but I think there was a lot more sleet this time so the pack is super dense and the crust is nearly thick and strong enough to stand on without going through. It's slicker than last time too, my dogs can't even move on it so they pooped and peed right outside the door It looks kind of nice though, everything is all glittery and shiny
  6. One thing that really stands out to me is how few times there were more than one such storms in any particular year. It happened more in the last 18 years than the previous hundred.
  7. I'm 350 feet above Croton Falls and it has been raining for an hour now. Spots that were shoveled/blown are down to iced over and wet pavement now everything else has a nice crust on it.
  8. Been here for a few minutes already 25*, wind is coming up, freezing mist and rain into 3+" of sneet. Everything is encased already, now it's gonna get locked in.
  9. I've got freezing mist and rain now, temp is 25*! Uggh
  10. I've gone back over to all snow and like ^^ also very fine flakes. Temp is up to 23*, dp 21.
  11. Long Beach As said above, there wasn't a lot of significant winter weather in the 80's outside of a few select storms.
  12. Temp still inching up, it's 21/22* now, E/ENE light and variable, moderate sleet 3+".
  13. ^ Boy I hope you're wrong about that ZR. This exceptionally dense 3" thick layer of sleet and snow will freeze up hard if that happens.
  14. Temp is slowly creeping upwards, 19* now. Most of the local WU stations are showing a southerly component to the wind now but it is all over the dial including some NW. It's still heavy sleet, easily 3" with 4 in some spots, sleet is a bear to measure.
  15. Sometimes it adds up. We've had some impressive sleetstorms here over the last 15 years. 6+" of pure sleet is a sight... and a big a*s hassle and we've had that a few times. #Thenewclimateregime
  16. I sure hope so. It's been pounding sleet here for 90 minutes now and was a sleet/snow mix for about that long before and all snow before that. There's now a bit less than 3" of slurry that sux to even walk in. It's 18* so if it did flip to frzg rain everything will turn into a solid block of ugliness.
  17. I had that for a few minutes before the flip to sleet. It's been heavy sleet for over an hour now that's compressing an already super dense 3" of tiny flake snow down to an ugly 2" slurry that's going to be fun to watch freeze up. Temp is still 18* dp is 15*, wind is kickin' out of the northeast too. Mahopac
  18. Flipped to heavy sleet a few minutes ago, temp is still 17, dp is up to 14.
  19. Oh no. Visibility just went way up and sleet started mixing in. Temp is still 16* and the wind turned a bit more to the N. It's gonna get ugly on the roads in a hurry.
  20. When I say better it's marginal at best. They're still so small that it's tough to see individual flakes unless you put a piece of something dark out for them to fall on. Flake size is big enough that it started to accumulate at a decent clip though, enough that the first plow just went down the street. Unfortunately he was cruising so threw snow 15 feet up the driveway and ripped a pothole open and spewed chunks into the front of my truck.
  21. 16/12-E-S+ We have passed through moderate to heavy snow here now. Flake size is better and the wind is pretty much down to nothing here on my hill.
  22. Vis is down to about 1/4 mile (sometimes a little bit more), flakes are still small, wind is coming around to more of an ENE rather than just E direction, temp is still 17*. Mahopac
  23. As long as the wind stays out of the east it will likely stay warmer along the coast than up here only 25 or so miles north of Stamford. The microclimates around here are pretty cool to observe. What's the temp there now? I'm at 17*.
