  1. And it's back to dense micro flakes mixed with frzg mist.
  2. I only got a couple of inches in the January storm. Went into March with something like 23 or 24 inches but finished with nearly 70. Good early season snow, extreme cold for an extended period of time, a freak rager in the middle of golf weather in February and then a stellar, power destroying, forest mangling March. Last winter was far from mediocre.
  3. It went over to white mist for a while and added a new layer of opaqueness to the aggregate on the ground. Now it's back to 31* freezing mist. So gross outside...
  4. I got a flaky, sleety coating and topped it off with a nice slickery glaze. I've got a nice moderate density freezing fog going on, makes for a dreary day.
  5. It sleeted on and off most of the night then turned to freezing mist a while ago. It's still a heavy frzg mist and everything is glazed.
  6. @Hitman So, ya got your fill of snow for the season?
  7. Back to light snow. Everything is nicely coated now. 29/22/SE/SN-
  8. Of course, I type that and a minute later it flips from nice light snow to huge sleet pellets.
  9. It's been flurrying for an hour and it's picking up just a bit now, we have a nice dusting. 29/21/NNW/SN-
  10. I don't like your odds I rarely hope for you to be wrong but this would be one of those times. Bring on the warmth
  11. My p&c doesn't change to plain rain but does have 6 hours of freezing rain after 1-3" of snow.
  12. ^^ Wow. I've had to drive on interstates and other big roads a bunch of times in the snow and it's always a crap shoot whether or not you make it to where you're headed without a problem or long delay. I'd much rather be on smaller secondary or tertiary roads if I have a choice.
  13. I think that it could be debated which is higher impact on travel. Sleet mixed with (even just a little bit of) snow, which is the most common way for it to fall up here, is a disaster to drive in. Just snow is difficult but usually manageable if you have decent tires on the car.
  14. Being on the west slope of the Sierra it always seems to have different (wetter) weather than at the lake, I guess that's why I thought it was further down. I looked at what some of the people that live there are talking about on another forum I frequent and it's a mess trying to get into the basin. Most people are turning around and heading home rather than fight their way up to end up sleeping in their cars somewhere. I80 is not open over the top and US 50 is backed up for 20+ miles. Gonna be a lot of bummed out skiers missing a great weekend.
  15. And that's 'down the hill', I wonder what it's doing up at lake level and mid mountain.
  16. I know more people that live in ME and the other snowy zones of New England because it snows a lot and has serious winter weather than otherwise. In fact ME or NH are high on our hit list for when we finally get to leave here. I'm torn between there and the middle Keys, terminally warm sounds appealing but rising sea levels may put the kibosh on that line of thinking.
  17. I was wondering what the temps were over that way when it went through. It had just popped above 32 when it went through here so cleared surfaces are just wet. How much of this glacial mess will degrade today and how much will be left when it locks up again tonight?
  18. It may have been a low impact storm in some places but here it made moving around really challenging and dangerous. 3" of snow topped by 1" of sleet capped by 5 or so hours of freezing mist/rain. Everything is still encased and the whole place is a block of ice. I'm pretty sure most of the crust will degrade with the warmth today but whatever is left will be locked up again tonight and won't go anywhere for the next week or so. Where the storm was high impact it left it's mark and will be a problem for some time to come.
  19. There are quite a few along the Croton River corridor. I drive up and down between Croton Falls and Brewster at least 5 days a week and see one or two most days, I bet if I stopped and paid attention I'd see more. There is also at least one peacock in the area. I have 2 hawks nests in the yard, we saw a big one the other day sitting on a branch waiting for breakfast to make itself evident. It looks like the drizzle has already moved through this morning, maybe we get a nice(ish) dry day today
  20. It sure would be nice to see that bowling ball roll across and only gain ~250-300 miles in latitude.
  21. Well yeah but... Sketchy right? You need to get YakTrax or similar. I'm looking forward to some warmth tomorrow.
  22. This time it's ok if it goes away, it's just a useless ice pack that's sketchy to move around on. The way the ice creeps into the roads as it melts during the day and refreezes at night is kind of scary too. It is kinda nice to look at this morning with flurries drifting down but I'd rather it be gone.
