Turned out the long range guidance was wrong because the mid-range guidance was way off. If the guidance was correct in the day 7-10 range, then the longer range guidance would have probably occurred. I think way too many put too much stock in the long range guidance when in the mid-range guidance is barely reliable.

Wow CooL in the house
Yeah, nice to see him. Everyone here seems to know exactly what's going to happen weeks ahead of time. It's amazing! The whole place is like a funeral all the time. Like a bunch of old people talking about their ailments.

My concern this early on (and things should improve afterward) is that the above 500 mb chart is quite similar to a period that also was a "miss" as far as snowfall was concerned for the NYC and Philadelphia areas: February 17-March 3, 1958.
New York City: Precipitation: 1.95"; Snow: 0.5"
Philadelphia: Precipitation: 1.97"; Snow: Trace
Are their similar periods that weren't a miss that you can point out, or just this?

My neighbor just went there on a cruise. Looked really fun. I didn't even realize they had cruises here.

Couple of pics of the pond across the street and the throng of sledders...looks like fun - trying to convince my 29-year old son to go sledding tomorrow...(at a bigger hill, lol)
I remember as a kid going sledding at the west 9 golf course in Plainfield. @Stormlover74 do kids still sled there?

Of course I opened a ski shop late '97 and struggled with it through 04. I was right down the street from Thunder Ridge and it only snowed a few times the first few years which made it a little difficult.
Did it all eventually work out? Otherwise sorry to hear, just bad timing.

2" before the end of January is uncommon but not super rare. That happened 3x in the 1990s as well.
It's interesting we even had a run of 3 years out of 4 with less than a foot of snow for the season. (94-95, 96-97, 97-98)
96-97 through 01-02 had 5 out of 6 bad years with 2 years below 6" here. The whole 90s pretty much sucked outside 93-94 and 95-96. 92-93 was just about average.

A bunch of us are taking the kids to WOP at 2pm and we are bringing beers. Come by for a drink.
Wish my kids were younger for that still. They are pissed school was closed today since they wanted to go to ski club at the high school. So far ski club is batting zero, 0-3 with trips the past 3 Fridays. I'm "working" until 5, but thanks for invite.

I am not far from you and it is not even sticking to my untreated driveway. Maybe 1/2 inch sticking to a brick landscape wall on my patio and only a dusting is sticking the cars. Pretty much a nothingburger here thus far.
On top of the crust from Tuesday there is nearly 1.5". On my deck an inch. But all other area's minus my back paver walkway its just wet. Hoping to get out later to have a drink withh friends.

Its funny how its only sticking to the snow on the ground. My driveway is just starting to get covered and the roads are completely clear.
My measurements later might be on top of crusty old snow and ice.
Great snow day, lol
Yup, same happening here. My driveway is just starting to get covered as well. I measured on the old crust just now when taking the dog out. Picked up again here. Maybe we can make a run at 1.5". I don't totally blame school officials though, when they closed the forecast still said 3-5". I think all of us knew this was 1-3 in our area.

Do you have a link to this radar?
It is radarscope, an app you have to pay for.

Aren't we just getting into 5 now? So our best week to date has been in P4. Isn't P4 supposed to be bad in Nino's? I think that is what Nittany was getting at, that there is a ton more to it than just getting into mjo phases. I think the split/weak pv helped for this week being winter like.

lol, same here. Some better radar reflections getting closer, hopefully it is some actual steady snow.

1.5" then some sleet, Frz rain. Pretty huge bust when the forecast was 4-6" here.
Overperformed with the last storm with the 4.5" I got, so I guess it evened out
