  1. At Lakewood Park, the eclipse was great, but only one star was visible thru thin clouds. The young next door TV meteorologist was doing live broadcasts for his station 220 miles away.
  2. At 11AM it's 61°F and Not A Cloud In Sight near the Lake Erie shore. But a thin haze layer. How long will it last?
  3. I'm 7 miles from the dead center line, but only 500 feet from Lake Erie. Might the lake impact local viewing conditions?
  4. 9AM, a guesstimate of over an inch on pine trees and bushes near Lakewood Park. The street and sidewalks are only wet. Even the plastic trash container lids, don't have much. It's been holding at 32°F since 6AM EDST.
  5. 6 PM Friday. Over 6 inches of new snow near Lakewood Park. But a helpful neighbor shoveled snow at my best measuring spots, so I'm just estimating. Temperature at 2 PM ~ 27°F, at 6 PM below 22°F.
  6. Betsy Kling on WKYC-TV was talking about a Back Door Lake Effect Snow Storm this weekend. With the moisture coming from Lake Ontario.
  7. Gee, in Lakewood Sunday morning, there was a snow coating on the windshields of parked cars. And that is all there is now.
  8. Steeler fans don't understand that in Buffalo, if you don't like the weather, just drive to another part of Buffalo.
  9. I'm about 500 feet from the lake in Lakewood. Not much happening here, other than the temperature drop. 44°F at 2AM Saturday then 27°F at 9AM. The buoys in downtown Cleveland and Lorain have see occasional gusts to 35MPH since 2AM.
  10. Overnight snow near Lakewood Park. I would guesstimate about 1/4 inch. The temperature, dipped to 32°F at about 2 AM, but at 8 AM it's up to 37°F and much of the snow has melted.
  11. It's 8:00 AM Saturday morning and there is about 2 inches of snow on the ground near Lakewood Park. At 7:00 AM the temperature was 23°F.

  13. At 5PM Sunday, I measured 3¼ inches of very heavy, very wet snow near Lakewood Park. The air temperature has held at 32 to 33ºF all day.
  14. Maybe a ¼ inch near Lakewood Park. But my wife reports that it's over glare ice (and she is an ice skater).
  15. I'm 5 miles west of downtown Cleveland and 500 feet from Lake Erie. (next to Lakewood Park) Our small lot has no open spaces, so lots of drifting, but I would guess (from inside) less than 3 inches. Wednesday afternoon in the park they were pouring concrete for the new swimming pool. Now it's -1°F, I'll bet that concrete is getting cold.
  16. The Dunkirk weather buoy saw wind gusts to 58 knots out of the WSW at 8AM. No open water weather buoys are operational this time of year.
  17. On the "White Hurricane" or 'Great Blizzard" of January 25, 1976. https://www.weather.gov/iln/19780126
  18. I just got my old barometer down off the shelf, just so that I can watch it fall. * * * * * * * * * * * * Pressure from KOHLAKEW46 just around the corner. Wed. Noon 30.50, Thur. Midnight 30.26, 1:30 PM 29.89
  19. from Google The average depth of Lake Erie is only about 62 feet (210 feet, maximum). Lake Huron measures 206 miles across and 183 miles north to south, with an average depth of 195 feet Lake Michigan is approximately 118 miles wide and 307 miles long. Averaging 279 feet in depth Lake Ontario is similar to Lake Erie in length and breadth. Yet with its greater average depth (approximately 283 feet) Lake Superior with an average depth approaching 500 feet, Superior also is the coldest and deepest (1,332 feet) of the Great Lakes
  20. So something like the 'White Hurricane' January 26, 1978. Air pressure at Hopkins 28.28 inches. Temperature @ 4AM was 44°F, @ 6AM about 14°F, later 5° 82 MPH sustained wind at Hopkins, gust over 100 MPH at the water crib. With maybe 7 inches of new snow on top of 13 inches of old snow. (from the Dick Goddard book)
  21. Off Topic: Great Lake Erie visibility 2PM Wednesday. I don't remember better visibility from Lakewood Park! The steam from the Perry nuke plant was bright (39 miles). The Timberlake/Eastlake smoke stacks looked like they were in downtown Cleveland (22 miles). The water crib antenna tower was very clear (4.3 miles). And the Avon Lake smoke stacks were bright( 13 miles). And an optical illusion of seeing the Canadian shoreline. Other walkers commented to me on this (I had noticed it on arriving at the park). But at 50 plus miles I don't think that it was real.
  22. Cold Front - November 30th Well it's an interesting weather day! some data near Lakewood Park: Nov. 30, 2022 12AM - 55.2°F 2AM - 55.6°F 7AM - 52.5°F 9AM - 41.5°F 2PM - 31.8°F Rain 0.07 inch 8AM to 9:30AM 2PM Fairport Harbor WSW wind at 40 knots with gusts to 48 knots. 46 and 55 mph.
