I came home yesterday evening and we had 1/2” or so laying around. My wife said the sun came out after it stopped snowing and it just “defluffed” lol. Pretty sure being we are south facing and the temp in the 20’s with a real dry snow resulted in a good bit of sublimation of what the actual total was which I know was at least an inch (I’m gonna guess we ended up between 1 and 2 as we had 1/2” when I left before 11 am and she sent me a picture 1.5 hours later of double that with it still ripping). My rough calculations puts us at 12”+ for a season total which I think is a touch more than what we ended up with last season. No clue on the exact average here but my estimate based on what I can find is it’s something like 20-30”, so I’ll call it halfway there. Thus far we’ve had cold, one decent flow snow for my location that was more than the typical dusting to an inch, snow on the ground Christmas, snow multiple times a week, etc. I’d call that a good start considering we are still in mid-January, especially when you look at the past 5 years.

Flurries off and on here above the Pigeon. On top of a waterfall at an undisclosed location up above 40 and the river.

Heavy snow squall in town with visibility less than 1/4 mile. Very impressive!
Real heavy, it was putting it down when I drove through. Wife sent a picture of the deck and looked like we are past an inch and working on a second now at home.

Nice snow globe action this morning in Waynesville, not sticking but pretty. Only trace amounts grass, deck, and cars
@WxKnurd, my buddy up Chad Crawford sent me some pics. Solid dusting up to a half inch he said (around 9:45am).
It’s coming down good. Definitely at half an inch-plus now. 23 on the truck thermometer. Headed to Mt Sterling area to do some exploring.

Was coming down better than at any point Monday while waking our dogs earlier, solid dusting getting up towards 1/2” now.

Yep, light snow started falling about 20 minutes ago here. Really more like big flakes flurries.

Sun ended up coming out here, wind has a bite to it otherwise another pretty, albeit colder, day.

It’s been foggy the past two nights here too, nice and icy this morning like you said Met.

I’d say that’s an accurate map. Here on the Haywood/Jackson line we were probably around an inch total if you added it all up. Accumulating snow, it would melt and then another band would put down accumulating snow and so on.

Lol I want a full analysis of when, were, and how, with moisture content and how warm was the hemlock branch sir....
Haha. At an ambient temperature of...
I really need to setup a measuring board since I’m using trees

Slacked back off, these bands come and go, was right on my 1/2” guess. Just measured that on the compacted snow on the porch and what was on my hemlock branches.

Whitening everything up now, trees and areas that still had snow like my back deck might be getting close to a half inch on them.

Looks like 28 there at Stecoah Gap

Yep same. We had a heavy dusting on everything then it stopped but back to moderate snow. This just puts you in the winter mood.
It’s funny how the color of the object affects things to, my work truck is white and the bed Cover on it is black. Still had some snow on the hood and immediate stickage on it with this shower. Bed cover is clear and just now starting to get some flakes to not immediately melt. Just goes to demonstrate the science of white vs black objects in regard to hear retention.

Dusting melted off once it had stopped, which with borderline temps and it being daytime doesn’t surprise me. Back to moderate snow with some fatter flakes.

Woke up to a trace of snow then about an hour ago it started back up. Light to moderate snow here, a legit dusting now.

Thought it looked like there was a trace of snow on the vehicles and it was, occasional flurry now .

I figure if I had measured every hour as is official, it was probably close to a 4 inch total here that is now 2” of compacted paste. 10”+ season total thus far with three 3”+ events and another dusting, already matched last season.

Man if I had any size to these flakes I’d be raking up the last hour, been coming down really good. Slowly going from dandruff to maybe dime sized.

Just measured. 3.25-3.5” on the back porch railing, so added a little over a half inch. Give me another half inch and I’ll be happy. Was expecting 3-6” before things were showing some potential to be over 6”, so can’t complain.

Think we have added about an inch here since I last posted.
