Managed a quick dusting here in Waynesville. Granular snow.
Temp 30F
Trace of sleet and graupel here. Headed to grab dinner and the top of Grassy Bald across 74 from me is white, Plott Balsam is white down to probably 4000’. Angle orientation wasn’t and isn’t right at this moment, just based on last year and this year I can tell the angle that Waynesville proper gets snow during a flow event is different than the angle I need to see decent flakes. We seem to at least see something fall but being below 4000’ things have to be just right to get more than a dusting. Peaks of sun at home but solid low cloud deck in downtown.

Either light graupel or tiny flakes falling here, we’ll see if we can get some better stuff bet over Lynn Lowry and down to Balsam Gap.

Yea your buddy and I are basically the same elevation I bet, he’s just barely on the Jackson side south side of 74 and I’m barely on the Haywood side on the north side of 74. Seems like when it’s heavier precip it’s all sleet and lighter stuff is basically a misty sprinkle with a few sleet pellets. Mid to upper 30’s up here when I got back from down in Hazelwood.

Finished up walking the dogs and had some sleet start falling, just a passing shower though. Scratch that, still sleeting away.

Wet ground and plain rain here thus far

Good to see you back posting more local, always enjoyed your posts when you would fire up the guns when I was down in Charlotte. Seems we’ve got Haywood and it’s microclimates covered pretty good with posters.

Didn’t see anything falling when I went to bed after the App game but looks like some flakes fell and we have a trace of it in spots.

For sure, enjoyed every day we got thus far that had that wintry bite to the air not taking it for granted.

The central and southern mountains will benifit from this event nicely especially above 3500 feet.
I like where I’m sitting to see some flakes after midnight though I only expect them to be token ones at this point. Then early next week for sure has my attention. Already liking this winter better than last year lol.

Thanks, glad to be back. I’ve been keeping up with things lurking around not logged in since I couldn’t remember my login info and it wasn’t saved like I was saying the other day. Life has been crazy this year, which I think everyone has felt at some point or another and uttered those words lol.

Going to be a cold one tonight. Already down to 16 degrees.
Yep, 18 here. Glad I finally got around to putting antifreeze in my camper water lines yesterday afternoon.

Talked to a couple on the AT that were on Max Patch this morning, chest deep drifts according to them. One ridge I walked on had some shin to knee deep drifts.

Any deer moving?
Haven’t seen the first track. Found a great rub line on the edge of a rhododendron thicket but wrong side of the ridge for the wind. Couple miles back now, not far from the AT. Just nice to be out and clear my head.

Let the dog out at 12:30 and we had what looked to be 1-1.5”, approaching 3” now if not already there. Heading towards Harmon Den area to hunt this morning, I’m expecting 5+ there even at the lower elevation. Radar showed them getting hammered when I went to bed.
ETA: Definitely had to have scrapped 3” off my truck. Roads are fine even with it being in the 20’s. Neighborhood road had a coating on it but that was it. Around 20 at home, 25 here in town and just a dusting. Best event since we moved up here in mid-Feb 2019. Think we can end up around 4 if it keeps snowing those small, furious flakes til sunrise.

Looks like 1/2” on my deck railing with light snow falling. Already surpassed my expectations.

Yep off Walker, but up a couple of private roads and a creek crossing. Beautiful, peaceful area.
Gotcha, we looked at a home off Old Fiddle up there but settled on a log home in the neighborhood before the parkway. Love our area! Solid dusting now for me, feel Confident I can eek out an inch or two.

I need to come hunt at Buckethead’s tomorrow I see lol. Vehicles, deck and trees are starting to whiten up ever so slowly.

The Plotts are getting snow covered up above 4000’, flizzard down here at 3350’. Last day of November and flakes (no matter how small) are flying, I love living in the mountains.

Off and on flurrie/sprinkle mix since I posted earlier. Typical for me though being on the south base of Lynn Lowry. Oh and they’ve had the parkway closed since this morning here.

I’m ready to experience a good synoptic system, I want to see what the Balsams can ring out during a Miller A or even overrunning event with good cold air to work with because I know what they do when it comes to those systems when it’s plain rain.
