Thx bud- TC is great place to live

Ty sir- backs up to about 50 acres of trees and hills on a golf course (even though I don't play golf)....love it here- very peaceful....I built the deck myself last year while I had a break from development
-
7"+ in Tega Cay- hard to find an accurate place to measure bc the snow has been drifting....20F and moderate to occasionally heavy snow

Talked to my neighbor and a couple of other friends in Oak Island- sunny and breezy right now -

I think the best forcing stays east and south of you- N-NNE wind direction isn't helping y'all bc of the downsloping component off the mountains directly to your north and NE- it creates low-level divergence....you will probably get some snow showers, but not nearly as much as areas like WS/G'boro -

Some really good dynamics getting ready to move over top of CLT- you can see the convergence from the south and west on GSP radar -
You are 5 miles from me- I am just over SC line- same deal here....we are closer to 4" after the last band....house is on top of a giant hill- 35-40 mph gusts a minute ago

Good call- may get the firepit going today myself

Take a screenshot and cut it to size

You can see the heavier bands starting to form E of the Mtns and a little bit of spin setting up- this blows up over the Piedmont, Upstate and foothills over the next couple hrs

Given the setup, I don't think this is out of the realm of possibility....banding with theta-e advection is no joke- especially given how deep the cold pool is under the ULL Think of it (in terms of physics) like turning a moisture filled (semi-) linear tube into a funnel from upper levels to lower, then forcing all of the moisture out of the full funnel rapidly via mechanical means...you don't get a setup like this very often in these parts....negative tilt amplifies this effect substantially -
Beautiful

Jes@s- I am not the smartest man in the world, but something about this winter feels very different from the last 8 lol

Haha- was just up in Bessemer yesterday- getting ready to build out my one of my sites on W Virginia Ave

Snowing just SW of CLT at my location even under no radar returns... starting see the snow glow in both directions from the street lights in CLT and Rock Hill Frontogenesis will fill this in nicely by daybreak down 85 from Salisbury to GSP

Ty sir- great to see you in here

Very light snow in Tega Cay and a dusting so far...29/16 Heavier bands just starting to set up over the E Piedmont/Upstate...good luck to all- this should be a pretty memorable storm for most of us today

Static v dynamic modeling- dynamic takes into account the atmospheric moisture in any given area within the map, which can have vastly different ratios based on temperature, upper and lower level dynamics, etc. 10:1 simply normalizes the data set for all locations within the map having equal atmospheric moisture content. Think about being at the top of Beech Mtn during a hypothetical "normal" snowfall event, v downtown Hickory. Both locations are getting snow, but the air temp at the top of Beech is 15 F, and the air temp in Hickory is 29 F. 10:1 basis assumes the snow water equiv is equal at both locations (we all know it is not); Kuchera takes the temperature differential and other factors into account, and adjusts on that basis- the term "basis" simply means normalizing the data set to provide context based on given parameters.....10:1 (y)*(amt of modeled precip) solves for x (total snowfall) Kuchera has more variables factored in to reflect the dynamic when solving for x- in English- there can be many different ratios within the same given map -

Yea- I can confirm this- I have owned a home in OKI since 2012....kinda warranted, however- I have only seen snow down there on a handful of occasions They did have an ice storm winter of 2013 in Green Swamp that took out an enormous amount of trees- i had a water line bust under the house that winter.....there is literally nothing on 211 going through Green Swamp for 20 miles- you could get stuck out there very easily -

Ahh- I see....Theta e advection along an isentropic surface can throw off some serious/insane lift- it is weird bc water pressure along the isentropic surface appears constant like in a normal event. until it encounters the advection, then it isnt lol How you get 2-3" in an hour with thundersnow in theta-e associated banding, even with temps in the teens The physics on it are pretty f'in cool when you drill it down -

Haha- just renewed my SC licensing bond last week- but I don't build much in SC compared to NC- i have Unlimited class in NC, and NC lets us do attestation v having to renew the surety.every year- there are some big differences between the two states in terms of Admin code Yea it costs me time and $$$ every Dec to Feb- building during the winter is def my least favorite- ground is always wet, and sometimes you can't hit a final grade/landscaping until March on some projects- it sucks when such a minor thing holds up a bigger development. End buyers purchase heavily in March-June, so you really don't have a choice but to build, unfortunately Muni/State Bids must be a nightmare right now- I can only imagine since they are such big $$$ projects...fortunately I get to skip that whole step bc I am the project owner/developer and the GC (I would be protecting myself....from myself lol)....we typically don't have to mess with them as much on the resi side- I haven't had to do one since I became a GC....
