  1. That's why my parent's house (Muttontown) is a little warmer compared to me in Syosset. They are in a valley (145 ft ASL), if you drive on Northern Blvd, the downhill to the Old Brookville police dept is where that station is nearby. So a W to NW wind will downslope to the station. I'm sure the same things happens with your weather station, if the topography is like that. It's fascinating how LI is with all the little nuances and the effects on weather.
  2. Brand new weather station, put it up in October. I'm at 210 feet ASL FWIW. My car thermometer backs up my weather station. For example today, 87 on my wx station and once I drove, temp dropped from 91 parked on blacktop driveway at startup, down to 87 once driven. Went up to 88 by CW Post, 90 by Roslyn and 95 by Americana (Manhasset) all the way to Great Neck. All while driving along Northern Blvd. Same thing happened yesterday, my station is sited as best it can be on property. I personally think a lot of weather stations are not sited correctly and don't have a FARS. I could use my Netatmo if you want, as it was a blazing 93.5 yesterday, but I know it's not accurate & strapped to a deck post. My neighbor has an old VP1 on his roof with anemometer, which has trees interfering with wind, etc. Thankfully he doesn't put his data online.
  3. Usually for S FL to get record heat winds come from the N & W there. I didn’t look at wind direction with the record heat they’ve been having but I’m sure it’s from those directions to get that high in temp there.
  4. I was 86 & 89 last two days, same unit with sun on it. Surprised you didn’t hit 90 being away from coastal winds. I’m noticing since my move last year having more lawn around helps keep the heat down just a tad on most days from what I had at my old location.
  5. It's just S of Commack on radar it appears, probably go through in next 45 minutes.
  6. 88 so far. Looks like seabreeze front is making a nice move N in Suffolk
  7. No, I haven't turned them on yet at all to date. Having system replaced next month and backyard regraded too. I'm now up to 84.8 FWIW
  8. Here's a picture of it, can't put in middle of yard as kids would run into it and my wife would kill me.
  9. I'm the cold spot, go figure. Maybe I'm the only one with a properly mounted sensor, who knows?
  10. Nope, it's a fan aspirated VP2. Even my parent's house is 85 and that is by pool stones & I need to install new VP2 Pro to replace the old one, that's seen better days.
  11. You're 88 already? Geez I'm only 83 in Syosset right now
  12. NYS use to be 180 days, but they could apply superintendent days to it too as I recall. They changed it I think a year or so ago, after so many snow days one year & not enough make-up days in the school calendar, so that hours are now used instead of days. That's just ridiculous and a total waste of everyone's time all around. They should have extended two days 30 minutes instead IMO.
  13. Then looks like another 3 day warmup before cool down again by July 4th.
  14. I’ll start keeping an eye out for them nightly now. My 3 year son and I looked last night but didn’t see any yet in Syosset, so I told him I’d ask on here. Hopefully they appear this week in my own backyard.
  15. Anybody have any lightning bug (firefly) sightings yet? Figure after next week they should start appearing since it’ll be warmer and dryer. Just curious if anyone has seen any yet regardless.
  16. That explains the filtered sun this afternoon. It was clear sky this morning but this afternoon it looked like a thin cirrus layer & I did a double take since the forecast was for clear skies.
  17. Agree Chris, we'll probably be on periphery of WAR & in close development of the tropics will be something to watch this summer.
  18. I’m getting some huge house shaking claps of thunder here in Syosset. Heavy rains finally started too.
