  1. Yea, my grandparents were out for over two weeks; in their upper 80's they thought that they would never again have to cook on a wood stove, until that storm changed that thinking. I remember how everything was so heavy laden with ice, then, about 6 or so that morning it was like a front of some kind came through because the wind picked up, which is what really did the damage. To this day, this time of year, you can still pick out areas that had heavier ice because about 15' down on the trees it looks like they were all pruned back, I guess in a way they were.
  2. I recall a bad one here in 1994 but I think you guys in East TN have had a few since then.
  3. Yea, that is rough having an ice storm and losing power and then having extreme cold, plays havoc also with people working to reconnect everyone I would imagine. Your post doesnt make me feel alot better, not too far from southern KY.
  4. I would imagine that solutions will change multiple times between now and next weekend; at noon, it will likely be vastly different from what is currently depicted
  5. Although, more often than not, this is the way our winters are here in the South. Growing up in the 1970's, I didnt realize how unique those years were, I grew up believing our area got lots of snow each year, only to find out as an adult, that it takes a very unique set up to have that occur. Our area in Middle TN could use some moisture period, of any form!
  6. That is state wide west to east north to south
  7. So far, while the moisture has been appreciated, it has really under performed in my area and looks like we are headed into another relatively dry stretch, just a real head scratcher for me why it is so dry - it has probably been discussed but
  8. One thing seems certain is that the next two weeks are going to be night and day different than this week
  9. Looked pretty good for West and Middle I would say as well - I think sometimes we forget the forum is the entire state lol
  10. Yea, file that in the "never happen folder but fun to look at"
  11. Guess we should enjoy the relative mild now, change is afoot
  12. Correct me if I am mistaken but if it can phase into a bigger storm it could pull down some really cold air in its wake.
  13. That would really be nice to have about 12 hours or so of steady rainfall
  14. So sounding like I need to go ahead and get another rick of wood delivered this week while the weather is warm and prices are low lol
  15. Yea, looks like the 12Z GFS is waking up, will have to see a few similar runs from the GFS before getting excited, cautiously optimistic.
  16. I will echo your sentiment, it is really really dry, which is bad for our wet season
  17. Personally, the only way my love of the winter season is going to get a fix is if I move to the Sierra or the Tug Hill Plateau of upstate NY.
  18. The 12Z gfs went dry as a bone, that model is so whacked
  19. I think I am going to stop looking at the models altogether. It is strange in that it seems like we go through this every season, I would think that models would be getting progressively better at forecasting but it seems like we have the same "groundhog day" discussions every year in the forum.
