I'm not implying they are similar events but, during the December 2009 storm we started as snow then went to rain then back to heavy snow. We ended up with 16" + 2" more of flow snow on the back side for a total of 18" in Weaverville. Could there be mixing.....sure. With the QPF amounts shown on most of the guidance how relevant can it be? I guess if 3' is your goal you're out of luck. If 12"+ makes you happy you'll have grins galore!!!

Having a hard time believing that suppression will be an issue this early in December. I’ve seen crazier things though. Suppression will obviously hurt us NW folks vs you guys in SW mtns. Also, here’s a link to check out some awesome aerial footage from the big ASU win yesterday.

Seems that temps held longer than modeled per the usual with these CAD events. It left a beautiful sight for the 2nd time so far this early Winter season. Boone, NC

Rain gauge here in Boone showing 2.75” and a good portion of that fell below freezing. Could have been really bad if we were in the middle of winter.

It’s 33 here, waiting on the ice and sleet. I’m about 8 miles east of Boone, between Rutherwood and Deep Gap. I’m new here, but I’d love to be a part of the mountain crew! 

Avery County schools are dismissing early. Incredible. Mountain counties are getting reallllly bad for missing or dismissing over non events. Haven’t seen anything showing temps getting below freezing any sooner than 7-8pm if not later than that.

Had a neighbor tell me today that she remembers a pretty bad ice storm around Thanksgiving in the early 80’s around Boone. She was thinking 82 or 83. Anyone remember that one?

I also can’t believe how little talk there is about tomorrow night. Almost no one is talking about it that I’ve seen whether on social media or news. I think many will be surprised Thursday morning.

Eyewall has really tightened up, looks perfect on radar now. Notice I’m just west of Wilmington. Power went out about 2 hours ago. Getting some very powerful gusts.

It's rained a TON in WNC this summer. Boone area just had flash flooding last night.

Yeah the clown map is silly ( for late March at least) ....but probably a bit more realistic compared to the last 2 runs...

 

Sticking to my guns northern mtns see 12+ lollipops. Also beleive the big lollipop winners outside of mtns will be somewhere writhing 50 miles north or south of the NC / VA  state line from the foothills out into the coastal plain. Depends on exact track, but a deepening sub 980 l.p. riding our coastline will crank some rates no doubt. 2m will be an issue, but rates is what will give accums outside mtns.

I swear the models get worse and worse every year. So far we’ve had a non existent storm become a storm with 48 hours and we’ve had a massive parade of storms at 7-10 days become non existent storms. Really pisses you off.
